what's the best way to construct a explosive device that looks like dynomite or c4, i thought about attaching a digital clock to it and some wires wrapped around it, what do you guys suggest. PLEASE NOTE in no way do i want to know how to make a real bomb,i just need something that looks real! In my movie im just going to show a character planting it in a car and infer that it blows up later, thanks...

For the standard sticks of dynamite bomb, I would suggest several road flares taped together and with different colored wires leading from each into a few bit's and pieces of a small alarm clock, they type with a face (Use a face clock for the dynamite, a digital readout for C-4). The clock should be partially disassembled, with the wires leading into it.
For C-4, use a large block of modeling clay and attach a primer, a short round red tube shoved into the 'C-4' and going into a smaller box with a digital readout. Smaller ones, you can use the mini travel clocks with a chronograph built in for the countdown, larger blocks of C-4, make it a bit bigger. You can also eliminate the digital face and opt for a nice red button or toggle switch that lights up with a short antenna, then add in a remote detonator of your own with a few (Arming and detonating) switches. This type of military switch you can usually find in most surplus stores.
For really big and snazzy bombs, attach two clear bottles, tubes or whatnot together with some futuristic or milled aluminum parts with a third smaller tube/bottle.
Each large bottle should contain two different colored dyes in the water (Red, blue, whatever.) The smaller one should contain clear water. When the timer (As proffesional as you can make it.) gets to zero, have the two colors mix in the smaller tube and throw in some nifty sound effects to give a building to the bang.

Hope some of this helps. Remember, you can be as creative as you want but you should search out some info on what you want to build. Look at pictures of bombs (FBI related sites dealling with terrorism or this type can give you the best. Some of them require you to give information, be honest. I had to give reasons to join a medical forum for the purpose of obtaining realistic pictures and correct procedure for autopsy/medical stuff. I simply stated that I was a writer and struggling filmaker and recieved full access (With a do not try this at home warning, of course) and recieve updates all the time on related articles.)

Hope this helps you...

(Oh yeah, if you find a good place for FBI, CIA, or any similar resources, let me know.)

Just be careful, If you build this thing in your garage or whatnot.
Imagine a neighbor coming over or cutting the lawn and looks in a window to see you making it.
I know it's kinda silly, but nowadays, you never know what can bring the feds busting down your door.
I have plans to cast and make several hard rubber/foam weapons for a future movie. M-16s mostly. but can you imagine what somebody would think to see me carrying a dozen or more M-16s out to my van?
Oy vey!

Be careful, guy.

Anytime I can help, be glad to.

I suggest smashing stuff. get old electronics, e.g. stereos and microwaves (my favorite) and remove the outside. gut it and remove the main parts. we had and old microwave and we took off the cover and removes this big metal thing behind the keypad. we had the keypad on the outside and the digital clock at the top, it looked just like an explosive! for plastic explosives just get some wires coming out of the innards and poke them into white clay with a thin layer of plastic wrap around it, it looks realisic. hope this helps

Yeah, you got to be careful about making fake bombs. Today in math I took some dead batteries taped them together, added some paper "wires", and put my watch around it. Voila! 30 second bomb! I quickly took it apart though, because teachers, especially now, are very edgy about that stuff. Which I can understand.

Plastique on the spark plug would set it off when the engine is being turned over and all
you need is some clay for that. But if you want suspense and the driver is on the road then do it Speed style and for a touch of humor, five'O could try and get him to pull over when he can't slow down.
