Do you need any certain hardware/software to run Lightwave? I had the CD burned off my dads program and now everytime I try to run it, it works for like a minute and then says "illegal operation" and all that junk. I have a Pentium 3 with plenty of space left in the comp. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. |

Try removing it and reinstalling it. I had the same problem when I installed Visual C++ 6 on my computer. Everytime I tried to load an ActiveX control it would give me that "illegal operation" message and shut down. I reinstalled it and everything works fine now. |

I tried it but it still gives me the same message. Does Lightwave have a safety thing on it so it doesn't work if you copy it? Well, maybe it will work after I get version 6.0. Thanks for the help and if you get anymore ideas, post em'. |

Lighwave does need a "dongle" to run. It is a small thing you plug in the parallel port. Any cracked copy of this program will run without the dongle. Does your dad have an original copy of a cracked copy? Just copying the files onto a CD and then onto another computer is not a good way to do it. It should be done with a instalation program that installs not just the Lightwave program, but sets up other systems stuff.

assuming your dad bought a copy, you may want to contact newtek, (they make lightwave right?) and buy a license for another computer, if you do need another dongle, that may be a way to get it. plus this lets you legeally use it on another computer if its a crack, it may just be bad. thats about all i can add later Tom

Well, my dad has the original copy (as in legal) and he copied that onto a cd along with other programs like premiere and photoshop and a few others. So what is this dongle? Do you download it or is it hardware? Should I try and just copy lightwave by itself? I'll try and find the newtek website now. Thanks for the help! |

Once again, a legal copy includes a "dongle", which attaches onto your computer, and must be present when the hardware starts up, or else it will shut down just as you describe. Newtek's policy to send you another one is under the condition you send the original, damaged one back for replacement. They will send you another one, to use on an additional computer.... for about $2500.00 (or whatever the program costs new) When their terms of agreement says, "for use on a single computer", they mean it, bub. That's one way of enforcing it. |

Hey! My dad has 3D Studio Max also! Can that be copied without any problems? (please let it be so.) I got time to learn a new program |

you need a dongle for that too, but a 2nd computer license may be cheaper and come with one, but you'll need to check. there are many illegal versions floating around out there. (not a recommendation, just stating the facts) sounds like you've got it made with all this software you have. if you have time to learn new programs, check out blender, i think it has potential, theres a link someplace down the page later Tom

Why did you need to burn the cd? You could have used the original cd. |
