P.s. If anybody is interested in Buying a Videonics MX-1 email me @ jaredgerbrandt@hotmail.com

You are talking about hardware and software for NLE. First, you must consider you acquisition. are you shooting on VHS, 8mm, Hi8 or SVHS? then you need a system with analog video capture. If you have or are planning to get a DV or Digital8 camera, then you need a firewire card or equipped computer. If you're starting from scratch and you're using DV, seriously consider an IMAC DV, with firewire in & out, CD quality sound, etc. for $1200. Forget iMovie, it's for beginnners. Bite the bullet and buy Premiere 5.1, amateurs and PRos alike are using it for editing everything from commercials to Full-length motion pictures.
If you're working with analog video, if you like Mac, find a used G3 and buy a FUSE card. Great combo and cheap. If you prefer PC, look at the Pinnacle cards- whatever price range, they're the best cards. Don't believe anyone who tells you that you're going to get any kind of quality with a $99 card, or a USB device. If you're only putting stuff on the web, maybe, but not for filmmakers, believe me! Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, but lets say that my max price for computer and software would be about $1400, what could you or anyone else recommend? I will probably get a PC and I want it to look as much professional as possible, but I don't think I'll be going DV any time soon.(being only 17 with a low paying job)

Thanks,

MGIīs "Video Wave 2" can do chromakeying. I think it only costs about 70 Dollars and i think " Video Wave 3" is already out. I think it is not so a good program and it is not so good for chromakeying like premiere but it is cheap. I donīt know if Uleads Media Studio Pro can do chromakey. Donīt forget that you also need a fast harddrive.
A fast computer is also recommended if you donīt want to die with 80 in front of your pc editing your first film. I hope you have a good pc already. I use the DC10 Plus from Pinnaclesystems.

Heres what you do....

Buy a computer for about 1000 bux...

should be able to get.....

Pentium III 550, 128 megs of RAM, 20 gig or so HD.

If you use firewire get a Miro DV200 for $399, it comes with the full version of premiere 5.1.

ahhh you didn't say what kind of camera you have. But from your last post I am assuming you are going to need an analog connection. So look for a card for around 400bux that comes with Premiere.
