I want to get a digital video camera for doing higher quality stop motion animations. I've been thinking about a Canon Ultura. I know it needs to have manual controls, white balance, exposure, shutter speed, focus, etc... I've also been suggested to get a Panonsonic high end survelliance camera that has manual controls. I also want to do live motion, so a still digital is out. Any one that has ANY advice about which camera is really good, please let me know. |

When I was doing stop-motion I couldn't find a single video camera that could film at more than 4 fps, and the sales people where morons they thought animation was a feature for filming animals. Go for adobe premire and a capture card it would come to about the same price as a new camcorder. |

I agree, I have a cheap Sony TR7000 and I used premiere to do stop motion and it turned out excellent. Make sure that your capture card allows you to use your camera in 'camera mode' and not just VTR. This is the most important thing. I understand that with the Rapter your camera must be in VTR mode to capture so don't get that one.Premiere has the ability to capture stop motion and you can set how many FPS you want to capture and press the spacebar to capture. Very easy. |

The Canon Ultura does have manual shutter, iris, focus, and white balence. I've just resently used the stop motion capture in Premiere to do a time lapse sequence and it worked out great. |

Don't most digital camcorders come with a snapshot button now a days? |
