hey everybodycould somebody please tell me a way of how i could do multiple gunshot ricochets? is there an easy/fast way of making homemade explosive devices? i really dont want to have to do this digitally!! please help me! ps-i need a realistic looking green screened explosion. i know you can do it in 3d max, but i do not really have the time to learn how to do it...if somebody can tell me the basics of it, or maybe even whip one together for me if anyone has time. thanks folks!

Making home made explosive devices is against FEDERAL LAW as well as a basket full of local, state, municipal laws and the laws of good sense if you aren't a licensed, professional pyrothecnician with all the required paperwork, clearances, and permits. PlEASE don't ask for responses from people with regard to how to do home made explosives devices and any other dangerous, potentially lethal processes. These kind of posts will be removed or edited if necessary. Stick with the CGI stuff regardless of how long it takes to do. At least you won't do damage to property, people or who knows what.FXMan Moderator |

Compressed air rigs (archivesarchivesarchives) can have a bit of powder placed in the exit end of the hoses to safely create smoke puffs on command.Sound FX do A LOT to create this type of illusion. Finally, an old method of doing bullet hits was to fire a piece of chalk at a set piece or prop from a slingshot. Be certain there are no actors nearby when this takes place, though. ------------------ Jeff F - Magic and FX Amazing the Masses [This message has been edited by Jeff F (edited 03-27-2000).] |

An off screen technician would shoot a piece of ordinary chalkboard type chalk at a prop, causing it to disintegrate into a puff of smoke/dust. Watch some old really old westerns and you'll see it done hundreds of times. It was also done frequently with glass marbles, but I hesitate to reccommend this for obvious reasons.Add a bit of flash/sparks and SFX in post and you'd have a riccochet. Not enirely logical to have a tiny puff of smoke at any impact site but I've seen it done and like many FX it has to feel right to viewers more than precisely duplicate reality. If smoke or dust of any kind doesn't seem appropriate for the particular hit, one could simply blow a bit of debris out from the site of impact with compressed air. Of course, implied in all of this is that you add a (Non-pyro) flash or sparks to the impact site. ...Or wasn't that clear? ------------------ Jeff F - Magic and FX Amazing the Masses |
