Hey folks,
My latest project has been the action film "FILE 118". Although its only half way done im really excited about it so i just threw together a trailer to show off my work. Its kind of corny I know with my wonderful voice doing the dubes (which are supposed to be dramatic by the way-NOT comical). Its around 10 megs and in mpeg form.
Enjoy-

IF you want i can send you the video via email or icq or something. How come no one else is looking at the file, usually when a trailer is posted there are at least 20 responses within a day

Its hard to tell how good the final product will be from this trailer. It is just a lot of quick cuts to different things. Mind you, I do think it is edited well for a TRAILER. It will be interesting to see how well you shoot and edit a SEQUENCE.
It looks like you have put a lot of work and a bit of thought into it. There are some neat shots (but they don't last very long). There is a certain amount of cheese to it, but I'm sure your resources are limited. You work with what ya got, right?
Its better then anything I did at what I'm guessing your age is, but then I didn't have all the fancy doo-dads you young whipper snapers have these days. When I was your age all my editing was done in camera not with these comput-GLURP! (Sorry, my dentures fell out.) 15 years of technology makes a BIG difference!
The only thing that realy bothered me were the mussel flashes, or should I say, lens flairs? Don't use the lens flair tool because it looks like a lens flair, not a mussle flash. Look at any action movie to see what a mussle flash looks like. Draw the shape and then add some glow around it. Use a "brighten" brush to add highlights to things in the room.

Anyway... You seem to be a media savvy guy.

Fade to black...

nice work. good use of music. good cuts. a good trailer, all in all. like it was said before, id like to see the final product. i DO have a few questions and comments. first, that infa-red laser that sweeps by the camera's POV...howd u do that? is that rotoscoped, or what? secondly, the guns u used...the close-up where u see the slide going back in slo-motion...what kind of gun was that? where'd u get it? now for comments...everything is all good, cept for one thing...muzzle flares. stay away from using plain lens flares for gunshots...try experimenting with making more realistic looking flashes...light yellow gunfire mixed with white, and for each individual gunshot, add a bright light source to make it look like the flare is actually effecting the surroundings. other than that, nice work. keep it up.

P.S. u used metallica...u get extra points in my book

Sparkybus, the laser looked real to me.

I really liked it, can't wait to see the movie. I think the beginning where the door explodes would look better if you didn't try to add the door fragments. You know, if you just had the fire shooting down the hallway. Also, a little note on the shot of the computer. It seemed kinda funny to me that you were using the backslash (/) instead of the forwardslash (\). DOS uses the forwardslash to denote directories. A backslash indicates that a permiter is being called. (Hmm, maybe that's why they couldn't find the file? ). It's very common to do this because most people don't use DOS a lot, but you may want to change it in your final cut of the movie.

Hey,
Thanks a lot for criticisms. I guess Im gonna have to go and make some muzzle flashes-my friends thought the lens flares were cool but i will work on it for you guys. The laser beam is nothing rotoscoped, we just fogged up my garage with my little cheap fog machine then used a laser pointer mounted on the gun. The effect is great and you can see the beam. Like i said originally though, I did literally through this trailer together in like 45 minutes so its not as great as the longer, more explanatory one i will post eventually. By the way, a smaller (hopefully 6 meg) trailer is coming...

On your page, you mentioned that you want to make a better page. May I suggest www.theglobe.com ?

The building tools are ALOT better than Xoom.com's, they allow alot more choices for design, layout etc. They are also great for someone that doesn't even know what HTML means. The pages look more professional too!

You could make an awesome looking site at theglobe.com and keep your Xoom.com page for your videos ( unlimited space).

I just finish watching your trailer, and I'll have to say it's pretty groovy baby!
Good work!

I thought the trailer was pretty sweet. My only criticism would be the muzzle flashes. It just looks like you guys are using flashlights on speed for guns. Like everyone else said I'd paint them on using photoshop or a program like it. The story seems to be really good. That laser pointer was definitely a nice touch. The scene with the guy and the shotgun was awesome- the recoil was neat. What kind of gun props did you use?
Also how did you do the explosion? That was really cool. Overall I think you're off to a great start- can't wait to see the finished product.

The setup of mood is pretty good! The scenes you show go by way too quick. When I was watching I got confused. Try adding a second or two onto the clips. If possible try to keep the continuity the same even if your have to horizontally flip the image. How did you make the laser effect?

I'm sorry, but you asked for our opinion, and my opinion is that the trailer isn't that good. The voice over is terrible. TERRIBLE. Costumes? You look like 15 year old skateboarders with guns. The muzzle flashes are ok, the blow back was really fake, i saw some camera angles, but most were pretty standard shots, the door looked ok, but if you really want this movie to be good, you've got to change it, it looks quite fake, EVEN THOUGH IT IS COOL. The set up was cool, (slow starship troopers to fast metallica) and I liked the way FILE 118 moves around at the end. So all in all, 5 outta 10. Nice try.

big jim slate:

what does that mean? Did I offend anyone? I was simply being honest, he asked for our opinions, does that mean he only wants good remarks? And anyway, I thought I was very considerate, I complimented many things about the trailer.

What kind of message is: "I thought you were suspended"

First off, I am on probation, and through no fault of my own. Weekend Productions and I shared 2 computers for a time, and when Weekend Productions ip address was blocked, so was mine, thats why everyone made the connection from him to me.

And what business is of yours anyway? That ordeal is over with weekend productions (which is not me for all you who think you know everything, my name is Todd Banhazl, he is Jameson Cocherell). I have done nothing wrong here, I see that now if I say or do anything negative everyone freaks out. Yet I noticed a post inwhich someone said, WHOEVER SAID THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT, STRIPPED, AND SHOT. No one made a fuss about that, yet if I am honest and make a negative comment about someones movie I get pinched immeadiately by people like you.

Get over it

Hi, i agree with my friend the rock movie. But i would look on the other side and say these are just kids, even though im 15. They look younger. There not all that advanced with computer editing and thinking about costumes and light, etc.. Another thing is that it's hard to have good actors, incredibly hard. See, for me and the rock movie(todd) we are the only 2 that actually want to be actors/directors when we are older. So we try real hard to do the best. But then you need more actors, so you get your friends who don't really give a crap that much about doing a good job and practicing their lines. The reason you guys haven't seen any of our work yet, is because we are waiting until there is actually something good to watch! Nice ending , that was cool!

keep up the good work!

Hey Weekend,
Not to be rude or anything but we are older than you bro...and i thought that comment "Not that advanced with computer editing" is a little off. I know premiere like the back of my hand, i should-i took an 800 buck college course on it. If the editing doesnt seem that great its cuz the clip originally had other music and i just added the metallica beat and voice overs for a quick effect. Keyword QUICK-i will soon upload something a little more to your taste's though im sure. No hard feelings, i just dont want to look an idiot.
