I don't mean an actual wire rigging- Just hear me out. I want to achieve a shot where a kung fu guy does a flying kick. To get it I'll need to construct some type of zip line to him and use green screen etc. Does anyone have any bright ideas as to how I could do this? There are alternatives to the zip line idea like putting the actor on a dolly- use green screen and put him into the frame in the air but I think that would look retarded. I also want to try to do a flying flip ala Waynes World 2 Please give me some suggestions. Thanks |

for the zip line, you could possibly use an old garage door opener bar. the ones that the chain goes in to pull the door. just rig up something to get the wire to go into it.------------------ I was normal once..... I didn't like it. sweet merciful crap! my car! - homer simpson check my site http://members.xoom.com/lyvewyer/index.html |

my advice would be to look around for rock climbing, caving, and gymnastic places in your area. all 3 of these sports involve ropes/wires of some kind (I've been told 'nastics uses some kind of bungee/belt system for training, which is what i'm going to look into trying) if you can find a climbing club or something oyu may be well on your way of finding some really cool and safe ways to do it. later Tom

How would I integrate the green screen with that?

depending on what you are going to end up using, it may be as simple as a regular greenscreen, or you may need some wire removal tools. chances are it may end up being a combination of the two. you may be able to get some green tape thats close enough to the screen you are using and wrap the tape over the wires making removal easier. if you can gain access to an indoor climbing wall, you may be able to drape the screen from the wall and shoot normally. its really my best guess, since i have not done anything like this as of yet, but this is what i'm going to try.

why dont you just move the camera instead of the actor? if its a greenscreen, that would be the best trick? i think? |

Put the actor on a green screened pedestal/support and move the camera mounted on a dolly. Much less expensive and dangerous than trying to modify equipment made for other pruposes. Without knowing how to properly mount the equipment (what good is a pulley if it tears loose?) and calculate the stresses involved, you are asking for trouble when trying to home brew a flying rig. Dangers include but are not imited to: * Dropping unexpectedly from a height * Entanglement, resulting in strangulation or even the severing of an extremity. * Damage resulting from an actor being swung into a set or prop, or striking or landing on another actor or technician. * Damage caused to sets/actors/technicians from the moving end of a snapped cable. If you aabsolutely have to have flying done, consult a professional. Start by hunting down stage technicians of local theaters. ------------------ Jeff F - Magic and FX Amazing the Masses |
