Okay, I've finally had enough of this wretched computer. It still refuses to export video through DVGate motion. The 24hr & day a week online helpline takes anywhere from ten days to eternity to reply. There's no SCSI so the only HD one can hook up to is the Sony 10Gb stupidly expensive model. So much for taking Av compatibilty to a new level or whatever they boast in their publicity. I am going to buy a proper computer (and no, I can't afford it, but debt is a way of life for the low-budget film-maker) - I shall put the VAIO to one last use - load it up with pyro and blast it to the great computer graveyard in the sky -should make a good shot :-) :-( :-)

well, today just gets better and better.
Since the VAIO debacle of this morning, my car has died on me (on the motorway - needed a towtruck and anyone's guess on the repairs) and one of my biggest clients has just gone bust owing me for three months outstanding bills. Maybe I'd better not blow up the VAIO.
Anyone wanna buy a VAIO?

I have a vaio, i've had 2 hewlett packards before the vaio. The Vaio is a much better computer then HP. I've never had a problem at all with capturing. Sometimes when putting it backon to camcorder it says it's not connected. But if i restart it , it will work then. So i really love this computer a lot.

i might know a way to fix your problem.

Here we go

go to settings
select device controller
click : do not control dvgate with dv device controller

it might work, it's worth a try )))

Is it a laptop or desktop? If it's a laptop, please e-mail me about selling it.

My father has a VIAO. He hates his too. It has died twice, and cost as much to repair as it did to buy it. The 'memory was bad', that will be 500 bucks, wheather we replace the 32Meg, or go up to 64Meg. The 'Hard drive is shot', that will be -----. (It was not bad). The mother board is bad, and the warrenty went out last week, that will be 485, plus what ever it is to save your data on the hard drive. (The motherboard wasn't bad either). The vidoe card is just a custom version of the ATI Allinwonder.

Well, finally a breakthrough - I have successfully managed to export a finished project as an AVI and get DVGate motion to accept it - seems the problem was because I was using PAL footage and DVGatemotion doesn't like PAL - strange but true.

On balance I think I still will change system - too many headaches just for the sake of portablity.

Word of warning to prospective buyers - I am based in France at the moment.

If anyone's still interested in buying the demonhellspawn VAIO it is a PCGF190, 6Gb, with DVD-ROM drive, 56K modem and the standard software - W98, IE4, Premiere LE, AfterEffectsLE, PhotoshopLE.

Think that's about it.
