ok, i've got some nice reasons, now i need a bunch of clever ways to doing yourself in. they have to be ways that the person would need assistance in, not jsut shooting oneself in the head.

example: being tied to an anchor and dropped in a river. that takes more people than one. usually.

Check out the way David Heddison did it in the original version of The Fly.

Then there's Jane Fonda's check out in They Shoot Horses, Don't They?

I've always loved the rube golberg designs for the overcomplicated mouse trap.
Better yet, watch Delicatesson. A woman wants to commit suicide but can't actually bring herself to do it, so she comes up with all these outrageous scemes.
my personal fave is when she wires the door buzzer to her sewing machine and invites her boyfriend over, he rings the bell which starts the sewing draging a bolt of cloth from across the room, where a toaster is plugged in and sitting on the edge of the cloth, in between she sits fully clothed in a bathtub full of water. Of course, she is woefully incompetent in her attempts but they are entertaining

Perhaps your characters suicide attempts end up killing those around him, but he keeps missing his "main" target?

Just a few ideas...

It all depends on what you're looking for:

I think hanging brings the most powerful emotion. But carbon monoxide poisoning is the dignified way out.

You could always have the friend help prepare and keep things neat. (So that anyone that found him wouldn't be disturbed by the blood.)

The inherent problem with having someone help with suicide is it becomes a whole lot like murder. You could always go with the dr kervorkian type assited suicide where they hook you up with an IV and the person dying starts it up or something.
On the bizaare side I like the Rube Goldberg type device idea. Ya know, person one starts bowling ball rolling down ramp, which flips switch to turn on gas stove, which heats rope which breaks which drops anvil on board which launches a harpoon from a harpoon gun right into someone's eye.

well, this is all happening in a made up kooky world where people don't much care if someone helps another die.

i like the carbon monoxide thing, that's an idea. the hanging could be done by one person, thouhg. i could have someone need some special gas they want to die by, like cyanide or something.

Carbon monoxide can be done solo.

Hari-kiri (sp?), the samurai method of suicide (self gutting) is legendary and if the samurai was still alive yet too weak to finish himself off his assistant, kind of like a squire I forget the title, was supposed to behead him. Real classic.

I've found it nigh impossible to decapitate yourself with household items.

Getting run over with your own car is strangely poetic, especially if you love that car and it's really nice.

Someone could rig up an electric chair by shutting off the power, stripping a whole bunch of extension chords, holding them and getting someone else to reactivate the switchbox.

the japanese thing is called seppuku. it has nothing to do with being too weak to die, its all an honor thing.

trust me, man, i know everything there is to know about seppuku. a did a nine page research paper on it last year. course i got a 65, because i had info that wasn;t on my note cards, who gives a sh!t?

I had an idea for a suicide movie but never used it where a guy took 128 pain killers to try to kill himself woke up 3 days later in a park almost dead. You can always change it to somthing where he gets help killing himself after he lives for about a day. Feel free to use it.

you could have the guy have a bunch of cats, then he slices himself open all over the place, stuff food in there then throws himself to the starving cats. or he could jump from a building wearing a monkey costume and carrying a bag full of hamsters to throw at people on the way down

Hasn't the whole "dressing up as an animal and thowing hamsters at people on the way down" thing been done to death. It's almost it's own genre.

skinned fox, that's a whole lotta funny, my friend.

just to regurgitate the original point, i need suicides that people have to have HELP to do, not just by themselves.

How about having a guy who can't die like in unbreakable except he's suicidal.
