I'm currently writting a script but when I read it back the dialogue sounded very cheap and weak. Is there any books that could help, or does anybody have any tips? |

The 'About Site' is good; but it isn't great. The way I look at writing dialogue is to base a character's way of speaking on someone you know, even if they're nothing like the character- their mannerisms or quirks in speaking usually work. Basing dialogue on real people makes the dialogue more real. Also, if there is something that you can show the audience visually through expressions and such, don't get the character to say it. 'I'm scared' is a pathetic line, because you could just as easily show that the character is scared through facial expressions. Crummy dialogue is usually also a sign of obvious statements and too much of it.------------------ I once had 509 posts...but now I don't. | |
