I'm posting this here because I obviously can't do bullet time yet. I'm an actor, not a CG specialist. I'll leave this to you guys, and we'll get together when I'm famous making martial arts flicks. Anyway, what I was going to say is this: bullet time is starting to get old and pointless now, and since everyone can do it, shouldn't we stop trying to do it the same way?

The most famous shot is the one where Neo bends backwards to avoid flying bullets. No problems there, but that's all anyone does to show off their bullet time. Here's what I propose. Instead of backbending, do something original like dash or leap through the bullets while twisting to avoid them, or something. Slide onto the ground, spin, cartwheel, anything. Get to the shooter in bullet time and then launch a good ol' flowmotioned kick to his/her jaw. See what I mean? Same display of CG and special FX, but now it's cool. Ripping off everything down to the movements just sucks, and isn't original at all. Unless we modify it, then just stop doing it, guys. It's old. At least backbend and then flip or something. =)

The only reason I was ever thinking of doing bullet time was for a spoof where the actor (Neo) would be dodging baseballs instead of bullets.

Well, it's more original than anything else I've seen. ^_^ Sounds cool!

why must people always bitch? Dude who cares. They do their bullet time the way they want to, you do it they way you want to. I mean lightsabers how old is that? At least bullet time is a little more interesting.

First of all, I'm not "bitching". Second of all, I -would- do bullet time differently, but as I mentioned -above-, I can't do it yet. Third, I wasn't saying that everyone -must- do that. I just said that it would be more original to do it, and you can't argue with me there. It's a simple truth. I would criticize light sabers, but then again, what's to criticize? The entire concept? No one's made a direct rip-off of light sabers because there's so much variety in them. It's not about light sabers, it's about the fight choreography. THAT's what needs to be original, and everyone -does- do that differently. Next time try to see it from my point of view before coming back.

Well yeah Infiniti there comes a point where a certain CG effect becomes popular, and everyone wants to learn it. Everyone does, it gets stale and no one does anything that original with it. Its actually kinda funny...it was this big thing a year ago and now its "Hahaha, who CAN'T do that". Just kinda funny. Infact some guys from our school got permission to use two XL-1's and a crapload of DV camera and still cameras to film a scene in bullet time for their movie (A rip off of the matrix) but it has no bullets..its wierd..anyway..they kinda used it creatively theres a car chase (CGI car chase using Hover cars) and the good guy car jumps something and the camera does a freezeamation thing. From what I have seen its just more of the same from your pals at 3d studio max.

Theres always someone searching for THE effect that wows people, and everyone copies (anyone seen Romeo must die? X-raymation is a prime example of that). The Producers who produce these movies should pay for a better script not for a better effect. Least thats the way I look at it.

I have something to add.ya the matrix effects get old but you can still use them in more creative ways!you dont always hav to do a 360 effect. if you guys watched the behind the scenes on the matrix dvd,John Gaeta said he can move the cameras in a ton of different ways, in spirals,up and down etc. i think that effect could still be really interesting if you used it in more creative ways!!!

Well..I did it with a monkey! (no i don't mean DID IT)
Bullet time that is. My idea for my bands first video is to make a digital replica of our singer and have the crowd throw pint glasses at him as he 'bullet dodges' them.

Other than that I can see exactly what you mean about it getting old. It would eb nice to see some people doing something a bit more interesting. Like the idea of reaching the shooter for a slow mo kick in the chops!

By the way my monkey bullet time is missing in action, can't find it on any of my back-ups so i will get a new one done soon. sorry people.

I recently saw a trailer for a movie called "Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo", and they had a spoof on the bullet time effect. This time it was a guy dodging vases thrown by an angry woman . Quite hilarious sequence really...

Yer, I saw that too!!
And why do these special effects people get paid sooo much for their films when any one of us could do it with a couple of cameras ... or even only one// origionality!! Thats why!!
Infiniti is right!
