Ok, I have two nice and fresh PCI slots. I work at best buy and we don't carry this "geforce" people tell me to buy, but we do have a voodoo 4500 available for the PCI bus. Now, best buy also carries ati radoens, but they're AGP. I have no AGP.So my question is: what's some pros and cons of the voodoo 4500? I need it to boost video playback and speed up games. ------------------ Sincerely, Flemchuck |

Well as far a I know, all geforces are agp anyway. Advatages of voodoo 4? Well, it's probably much faster than your current card, and should speed up games considerably. It also supports FSAA (full screen anti-aliasing) which makes games (generally) look better. Cons of it? No where near as fast as most new graphics cards (but they are all agp) And since it isn't as fast as it's big brother voodoo 5, fsaa may run rather slow in many instances.Feel free to email me if you have a specific questions. :-) |

Now that I think about it, if your sys doesn't have AGP, it must be getting rather old and that money may (or may not) be better spent or saved towards a system overhaul with new motherboard/processor etc. |

i bought my PC two months ago and there's only one other newer brand HP model. It's a perfectly running 8755C Pavilion.I'm gonna open my thing up and see exactly what i have. I inserted my dc10 a few weeks ago and i only saw PCI slots. |

ok, well, i have no agp, and i dunno where you buy your computers, but jsut about none of the ones anywhere in virginia for that matter carry agp slots, unless built from scratch. so the voodoo 4500 it is for me, and i'm having fun with it already. |

Thats weird, I have never seen a PII board without AGP.Thats why I never buy brand name stuff. They put in cheap components and jack up the price because of the name. |

suspiria , most of the brand name manufacturers of computers have built in video chips on the motherboard that share memory with your computer.. they claim it speeds up the system bus.. its not until you hit the higher models that you get a dedicated agp video graphics card..hopefully this will change in the future... flemchucks specific model is 800 mhz and has 128 megs of memory and still a built in video card...i believe that model is selling for $1299.. sony is no different.. theyre pcgrx260ds model ($1299) has a built in video chip but the next model up (pcgrx270ds - $1599) comes with a swappable agp card.. hopefully with the new P4's out we will see the end of all inclusive motherboards... manufacturers (especially sony) are seeing a huge increase in the market for consumer turnkey DV systems and are adjusting accordingly.. so far all the p4 systems i have seen dont have built in video chips but do have firewire (along wih studioDV software)..lets hope it stays that way... - eddie - | |
