Thanks. Let me tell you my situation. This is my first movie. I have every shot planned out to perfection and everything. It is Horror. But I have an old Vhs camcorder but my parents are getting a new camcorder for Christmas so im waiting for that. Now for the questions. 1. I have heard you can only edit nonlinearly with a computer if you have a 8mm or a DV picture taking thing. My parents want a vhs-c. can you straighten this out for me. 2. I need to buy a video card so i can edit sfx and music. Is the Dazzle Digital Video Card any good? I like it because it is external but i have heard the editing program sucks. 3. Do I have to have the Premiere to do starwars with if i have Photoshop. Can I use the Dazzle software to capture footage then do it in Photoshop? Sorry for the long post. Any replies are greatly appreciated. My questions have built up because it took so long for them to let me post. |

VHS-C is fine, not the best image quality, but fine. Since oyu're getting that, I would suggest you get the Pinnacle Studio DC10+ (Boy, I've had to do that a lot lately ) It's great. I wouldn't touch the Dazzle with a 10 foot pole from what I've heard. got to www.mwave.com to get the DC10+ for $70, or go to your local Office Depot or Circuit City and get it for $100 if you don't like online shopping. And are you talking about lightsabers? If you are, you need to have some sort of program that converts video to filmstrip, Premiere is the only one I know of, sorry . Get the DC10+ it's great!------------------ "I'm Scared Sarge" "We're All Scared Son" Visit No Budget Films at: http://no_budget_films.tripod.com |

Dazzle Digital Video Creator works, but there is so much better out there for the same price. Also, Dazzle is NOT a capture CARD, but an EXTERNAL capture device. It comes in parallel port (printer port) connection, as well as USB. If you HAVE to get one of them, USB is far better(assuming your computer has that capability). I would recommend however that you look into actual capture cards. Dazzle is about $250. For an extra hundred, you can get a capture card that will be SOOOO much better. Hope this helps at all.------------------ "May the Force be with you." Be sure to check out JRMorgen Productions ONLINE, at http://hometown.aol.com/jrmorgenfilms/ And be sure to sign our guestbook. First of all, since you are getting an analog camera then DEFINENTALLY stay far away from Dazzle, I don't know about Dazzle DV, but Dazzle for analog, is horrible. I owned one, it saturates the picture color to dark reds etc. Messes up audio and video synch horribly, and the editor program that comes with it is less than moviemaker in Windows ME. As far as what capture card you should get, I would suggest what I use for analog (I have a dift. card for my DV footage...) but for analog, I use a Marvel G400 TV, it cost around 300.00, but I must say it is the BEST card I have used, and I have used a ton. Over the last year, I spent a good 8 months trying and returning capture cards, and this is the only one I've found for analog that I like. You loose hardly ANY picture quality when you put it in to the computer and also almost none putting it back on tape (it supports both) the sound quality is the caliber of CD quality audio, and it also synchs the video and the audio perfectly with a hardware MJPEG codec, instead of a dazzle mpeg codec. The only thing Dazzle is good for is a web video, because it captures mpeg, it can have a 5 min. video that is only 100mb or so, whereas on the Marvel it would be quite larger. However, Marvel is by far the BEST buy if you want to do video editing. The software that it comes with Avid Cinema, is good, it's not as good as premier (which I don't use) or Ulead Media Studio Pro (which I use, and HIGHLY recommend). If you want to make star wars type movies, you will need a seperate editing program, I will advice against premier, and hope you will get Ulead Media Studio Pro 6.0 It not only has a video editor to the caliber if not superior to premiers, but also includes a rotoscoping program that lets you do all the lightsabers and laser bolts etc. that you neeed. All right, this was a long post, but hope it helped you.Mark |

ouch. g400 the BEST analog capture card ? i seriously doubt. needless to say, that there are professional solutions, like pro-tools + AV-Option XL wich would give you 1:1 uncompressed media. but AV-Master is for sure still better then the g400, cuz it is meant only for this purpose. i own it, and it rox hell. it comes with MSP and you can get them at fair proces on ebay. ebay ebay ebay btw. ebay rox. gives you quality VERY cheap. the best thing i could do so far, was getting a fire-gl-1000 PRO for 1 buck, cuz noone else placed a bid, and the seller thought if heŽd start at 1 buck all would bet like hell . |

Well, I knew that professional cards were better, but I was talking about cards in the price range from around 100.00 to 300.00...Mark |

I had the same problem before! But, as it turns out, VHS-C can be edited with a computer just as easily as with DV! I mean, maybe it doesn't look quite as good, but it still works! I think all you need is a DC-10+ Capture Card and Adobe Premiere an maybe Adobe After Effects! Hope this helps my friend!------------------ FilmWEAPON http://focusproductions.cjb.net |

I also have a VHS-C camcorder, I have Dazzle DVC and it's alright. Captured video turns out fine and the audio is in sync. in fact it looks a little more digital! but the program has some glitches. If you can buy a better card/edit program by all means use that cause dazzle ain't worth the money. If you get Dazzle though, get the usb version! Also, I think the dazzle capture unit does work with Ulead MSP, and since there ain't anything wrong with the capture device, I think it should turn out nice!-Chase |

Vhs-c is find for capturing video. I've captured footage from my jvc vhs-c cam that looks as video captured from 8mm or hi8 in digital form. But if you were to compare them on tv, then there would be a bigger difference. So vhs-c should be ok for what you're looking for.Later, Gr|fter |

I use a Phoebe micro tv master card. It has gotten some pretty good reviews. But the best thing is it costs like $60 !! If you're on a budget, this is a decent card.Later, Gr|fter | |
