if i record a movie to my compture, and write it on a CD, and give it t my friend, will it play and if so will it be at the right speed, do they need to move it to their computer.

also, if i record it in mpeg format will i be able to play it on DVD players?

welllll. if it will play depends on the codec you installed. if you export it to a standard codec. yes. if you use your capture-cardīs proprietary format it wont play. also if itīs gonna be full-res video playing it from cd could be a difficult task i guess.

Many DVD players support VCD and SVCD CDs.
Now, as I said before in a previous post, if it is only for computers, go for DivX;-). It compresses better than any other codec. You can put a 2 hours movie on a 650.MB CD at a high resolution + you can make an interactive menu just like a DVD!!
I think if your friends have a CD-ROM reader faster than 10x, there shouldn't be nay problems of playback.

how much is DivX, i guess it's expensive.

Yeah, DivX ;-) is quite expensive... Nope, that's the beauty of it, it's totally free!
On the other hand there is some questions about it's legal status, since it is basically a hacked version of a Microsoft "mpeg-4" implementation.

If it is for a personal use only, you shouldn't worry about the legall stuff.
People are working on a new totally new legal version of the codec which will be about 20 to 30% better.
Here is the link to the post I wrote explaining how to make an interactive DivX;-) http://www.likeastory.com/boards/cgi/noncgi/Forum14/HTML/001140.html

Good luck!

When you render with Divx, you can adjust the data rate that the video is played at. 200k per second will work on any cd drive that is 2X or higher.

4X = 400k
8X = 800k
16X = 1600k and so on...

I making a tutorial on how to embed your video into a HTML document and make it auto loading when you burn it to CD. Everyone has a web browser on their computer so there are no compatibility issues. Look for the tutorial in a couple of days. I'll make a post when finished.

No...
You can't have a DVD on normal CD. On a normal DC, you can have VCD or SVCD which isn't as good a quality.
If you want to make a DVD, you need a DVD burner which cost A LOT!!

Yes, ofcourse you can make a SMALL movie and a DVDstructure and then burn it on a cdr.

It will work like a DVD but its a cdr. =)

Ok, I have a question that I know has been asked before but I have not been able to find any real clear info on it in the archives... What steps do you need to take to create a vcd? Is there a tutorial or something anywhere? Or could someone just explain it to me? I do have a dvd player that plays vcds, and my burner is capable of burning them. Please help me out or email me. Thanks in advance.

jabinya..

i have a little autorun program that does just what you want to do... when you insert a cd it autoruns and opens up an html file with a "user interface".. then they click on a thumbnail , or some "play movie" text and it loads the movie.. you can also add links to information and contact info , as well as use pictures as illustrations , just like you would a normal web page... but instead of running off a web server it runs off the cd-rom.. its not flawless , but works pretty much always...

let me know if you want it..

Eddie N, sounds like you have the same thing I have. Starterfile.exe I didn't post it before but I should have; my method plays the movie and html files from the CD. Nothing to copy to your hard drive and no need to access the internet.

Thanks anyway!
