Can anyone describe how to properly use an incident light meter?(Maybe a few steps in coming to a proper reading)

ok here we go I have used a sekonic and a gossen luna 6, since I use the luna 6 mostly my directions will be biased towards that...

1. Set ASA of film on light meter.

2. Place bulb in the area you want to expose for, facing camera.

3. Press button, and get reading.

4. Match reading (lumens I think) to the arrow on the bottom of the meter that reads "scale" (at least for the gossen... the sekonic is similar but I don't remeber what you match it up to...)

5. Now you will have your fstops... Read the number that is matched up with whatever shutter speed you are using or cine frame speed, that is your fstop.

6. Now when setting your camera it is important to remember details such as if your lab under or overexposes, or what kind of viewfinder system you have, or what kind of look you want. These things will effect your shot and must be compensated for.

All times are ET (US)
