Hey there,

I my latest film, I have a scene including about 5 or 6 ninjas and I don't have 5 or 6 full ninja outfits to hand out.

I'm sure I could figure this out, but any suggestions as to how to make it looks like they are real black dressed ninjas with inexpensive recources? THNX

If all your actors are buff (and male) may i suggest shirtless ninjas wearing black sweat pants?

Who knows?

check around local thrift stores like the Goodwill they usually have some interesting clothes for really cheap

Just go to a local costume/party shop, and buy the cheap ninja costumes. These kind of things work for what you are doing, but it wont work with alot of other kinds of costumes. If you cant afford them, then have your actors wear ALL balck, and just buy a couple of the hood/face masks from the costume store. Sweatpants or baggy black kakis will will work fine, but dont use black jeans. they can just were black turlte necks. They also need black boots. Once you get past the actual costume, whether you buy or make them, you can not forget about props and accesies. Buy some of those cheap plastic dragon stars and foam rubber nunchukas from a toy store.

Movieman, you underestimate my powers!

I already have about 5 real ninja / kung fu swords, tonfas, nunchucku, a bo, escrima and more! All I am lacking is the clothing. I have some but not a lot. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll probably go to a store and get hoods, then wear all black like u say.

Oh and ninjas dont really run around with the black pants and no shirt (that's bruce lee!). I'm talking about the generic ninja with all black. THANKS FOR THE INPUT THOUGH!

What about Ski masks?

I agree that thrift stores are excellent sources of costumes basics. At a local Value World I can go pick up black turtle necks of various sizes for $1 - $4 each!

While you may have to add to them, sew a little, or dress them up, the clothing you can find at Thrift shops makes an excellent starting point. Find out where every one of them is in your area, and if they have "Half off Tuesdays" or other special promotion days.

Yeah, my pal has a ski mask he is going to use.

Thanks Jeff, I'll try out the Thrift Shop idea!

Speaking of costume questions. I'm just about ready to film a period short. but can't seem to pull together enough period costumes. anyone have any suggestions for 18th century shirts (for men) and dresses (for women)?

It all depends on the character's class. Was he rich or poor, etc.

Well it's all upper class. all the charaters are sitting at a kings banquet table so they need to look like they didn't just walk off the streets.

For period dress there are a lot of little details that can add up to big bucks. Poet shirts at a store like Hot Topic will run you over $40 on most days (probably more). For this I would look into theatre groups and costume shops that rent.

For the Ninja's, Oriental Trader (Orientaltrader.com) used to carry some pretty decent, inezxpensive Ninja outfits.
