I have watched the Cell and Pitch Black DVD recently and they spoke of a process they called bleach pass. They said it could be done to the negative or in post. I love that effect. Is there any way to reproduce that effect on Digital video on my desktop? How is it done at the proffesional studios? |

Bleaching is a step in film developing that removes the extra silver crystals from the film. If you do a bleach bypass, you skip this step and the extra silver is not removed. This makes the negative denser (less light can pass through) so when it is printed as a positive, you get the opposite effect and it becomes brighter. It also makes the colours less saturated. To simulate this in post, you need to de-saturate the colours and turn up the brightness. Messing with the gamma might do the trick too. |

Didn't they do something like that in saving Private Ryan, or did they do something else? |

Im not sure exactly what they did in Saving Private Ryan, but they left only about 40% of the original colour |
