I'm getting a new camcorder after christmas and i have the choice of either buying the panasonic nv-ds150 which has dv in and out or the earlier model (nv-ds15) that doesn't have dv in but comes with studio dv, both are £650.

Which should I get, both camcorders are pretty much identical apart from the dv in/out.

Is studio dv any good cause I was going to get the pyro card.

Thank you....

I would get the one that has dv in. The widget may not even be designed for that camera, and it might not even have dv in capabilities period no matter what widget you buy. Don't take that chance, get the camera with dv in.

Definitely go with DV if you will be editing on a computer. That way you don't lose a generation when you import.

Widgets work with most (I'd say all) panasonic camcorder.
But you loose your guarantee if you open the DV port. Unless you close it, if needed.
But there other possibilities to open the DV port, with the computer.
On the other side, it's much easier to buy a camcorder with DV in, the rec-button is on the camera. Besides, I'm not sure, but I think you can't use premiere with the studio DV.

If anyones interested i got the panasonic nv - ds15.

It didn't come with studio dv after all, the guy in the shop lied. It came with dv studio which you use for capturing the stills to the computer. This actually turned out better because it comes with a wire that connects into the camera and i downloaded a program that can use this wire to enable dv in. The site i got it from was http://www.volny.cz/mkrejcik/dvzone.htm

I have bought studio dv but only because the guy in the shop gave me £65 off (after i complained about the panasonics price being reduced in the sales two days after i bought it.)

All times are ET (US)
