Does anyone know of a camera that shoots in 16:9 ratio? or better yet, one that shoots in 16:9 and fullscreen? I am looking for VHS-c or possibly and 8mm I can't afford digital..... any help you have would be greatly appreciated.

You can always get a wide angle lens for $60 or so, if you want true widescreen and none of the black bars BS.

The Hitachi Hi8 825HM (I think those are the right letters, I bought it awhile ago) will shoot in both 16:9 and regular aspects ratios and should be available used pretty cheap. It has it's drawbacks, like no external mic hookup and focus buttons as opposed to a ring. The camera is also a light hog, but used under the proper conditions it yeilds a great image. You can also use regular or Hi8 tapes in it.

I bought it back when digital cameras were still really expensive and I didn't want to lug another SVHS around as back-up all the time.

Hope this helps.

So about a wide angled lens......... how will it look on a normal tv or in the little viewscreen on the camcorder? because when they do a widescreen format VHS or DVD don't they scale down the screen?

I heard that the remaining two Star Wars movies will be filmed with all digital cameras. Does anyone know what they are or the cost?

I believe that the Star Wars movies will be shot using High Definition, 24 frame/second cameras. I don't know who makes the ones that Lucas is using but I bet that who ever it is is letting Lucas use cameras that are not yet available to the general public. I don't know the price on the cameras but based on other cameras and the price of new technology, I bet they cost more than $150,000 to buy or as much as $15,000 a week to rent.

Right now both Sony and Panasonic are finishing up development on the 24 fps HiDef Digital Video cameras, but I haven't read anything on price yet. I think Lucas is going with the Sony.

Video Systems Magazine ran an article mentioning them about two months ago.

I'm not trying to be rude, so if it comes off like that sorry. With all respects, I don't give a bowl of poppycock about what the new Star Wars is being shot with. I think that if you were going to start a new thread you should have done it in another post. Just my two cents worth....
Once again, sorry if I came off as rude.

Back to YOUR question then, my wide angle (adptor not actual replacement) lense shoots a greater field of view, but maintains a 4:3 standard NTSC ratio. I think the other post was referring to an anamorphic lens.

i think most of the Sony Hi8's and Digital8's shoot in regular 4/3, "Cinema" (black bars on bottom) and 16:9 (the image looks squeezed in the viewfinder but when played to a widescreen TV it gets unsqueezed. so it should be full widescreen. you might want to check on capturing, though.

if you can get a Hi8 camera. they're a little more cost-wise than 8mm and significantly better.
