if your DVD player can play VCD, do you need to include the codec on the disk? |

A VCD is an mpeg1 file encoded to certain specifications. Video is mpeg1, audio may be mpeg1 layer 1 or 2. Most converters will have an option for VCD output. With the resulting mpeg file, use a CD writing program such as winonCD or nero. they will take the mpeg file you made and do the rest. If you want different chapters on the disc I think you will have to make separate mpeg files for each. VCD 2.0 (white book) allows for menus, but I couldn't tell you how to make them. VCD 1.0 (green book?) won,t play on a windows PC. Nero and winonCD only do whitebook though I think. your dvd player should play the disc as long as it reads cdr. I've made a couple and played them on my sony. |

I think VCD is Blue book, but anyway I had trouble getting them read on my Sony DVD which also won't read CDr, I heard that it will read Silver or Goldbacks (not Green or Blue) is this because of some copyright thing that sony stuck in, or just how the DVD lens works?------------------ Sp70mm "My Reflection, Dirty Mirror..." -Billy Corgan, 1995 |

blue book is cd extra. What model of dvd player are you using? I have sony's s300 model and play blue discs fine. I'm interested to know if your reading problems are something in the newer players. | |
