ever use 3d studio max for 3d and 2d titling? does it look good? a friend of mine is offering to do some titling for me in exchange for a credit.. thats fine with me.. as long as it can look good.. im assuming i can easily just key out the background color to composite the titles onto live active assuming i dont use a key color thats visible in the live action... correct?

thanks to all..

if it's an animated title, sure, because of course, you can get all the 3d in the background and the whatnot.

if it's just the motionless title, you can do the same in photoshop.

if you use ps for titling, NEVER key it out (same with max) leave the background empty, and use a format supporting alpha-channels. a lot better then keyed. jfyi

An alpha channel will remove anything that was not an object when rendered .
So if you leave the backround blank and only have your text object , when in after effects or any other compsiting program , if you load the alpha channel ( that is rendered as a buffer when you first rendered your title ) it will leave a clean cut layer with only your text object being visible .

i'm pretty sure , thats about it .
Oh and Targa is a format that supports alpha maps ( i'm pretty sure )
