heres want im trying to do...i want to have a group of people gathered together in the woods. one of them steps back a few steps and flies up off the ground out of sight. I want to make it from far away and im not doin anything dumb(wires or such-plus we cant talk bout it). Got any ideas? I really want to have the camera far away; kind of a money shot where he flies up. i will be using final cut pro. can i use green screen? |

There are many things like this done before in star wars fan films. Its called force jumps. the general technique is to shoot someone on green screen, or if you have a lot of free time, just rotoscope in one. Then have this pan up and composite it over your background. A key thing though to make this look good is to make the lighting on your person the same as the lighting of the background |

simple film all the people then remove the guy who is gonna a fly, film again, then what i have done is just cut out the guy who is goona a fly and paste him to the clean plate scene, and motion blur him. and animate him upwards to get him lifting off. not most proffesional but does work, with a bit of editing in a photo program |

No wires, wide shot, lots of trees... You will have problems with the composits of green screen because of the trees. You will not only have to add your actor onto the clean shot but you will have to place the trees over him. Looks like this is gonna take you a lot of time! What I would suggest is using several shots. You can still have your wide angle but, encourperate several others that will make it look more realistic. Like having his feet rise up, a 1st person view from up, above the others in the forest (place yourself in a tree and film). Then your wide shot can start when he is already above the tree level. This will make it easier for you and will look a lot better!Slippery Glue Productions (tomorrows films, today) |

A really cool idea, but it will take a while to perfect... First, circle the camera around the group of people in the middle. As you are circling, cut to an outside shot about fifty feet away. Keep this for a seond and then, speed up really fast around them at the fifty feet level. Then, zoom in incredibly fast at the feet of the person jumping and then have a shot of him jumping straight up like five feet and cut from there and the way you do the last shot is do reverse filming, then, cut to each person's feet jumping. Finally to add the touch, do an animation of the people flying upwards.-Louis Respond if you have any more questions... |

If it's going to be a wide shot without a chance for the eye to catch detail of the figure, I'd try to model one performing the actions you want and render it with an alpha channel. Then you can composite against your trees easily without the trouble of filming a live actor and matching that shot with your outdoor shot. | |
