I am doing a snowboard video with my brother and need some advice. He wants to do a jump over a truck, but of course, we aren't really going to, that would be stupid, we just want it to look that way. We were thinking of filming him hit a jump, take a digital picture of the front and of a truck, paint out the background in photoshop or something, and put it in every frame of the video and of course, touch it up to get the lighting right. is there any problem with doing this with MSP. Also, has anyone used the CGI program that comes with MSP?thanks!

why not just do it in separate shots?

1-the boarder headed towards the truck

2-the snowboarder flying over the camera (jumping over it)

3-the boarder landing on the otherside of the truck.

We want the entire effect in one shot, so it looks good. We were just wondering if it is possible with MSP. Thanks for the input anyway!

P.S. Does anyone know if the CGI prog. that comes with MSP is any good, what does it do?

Well, if your snowboarder could actually jump that high you could have him jump with no car, then, without moving the shot or changing any settings, put in the car and film it and then matte in the car under him. If you could do it it would look perfect.

i agree with FilmBoy. it'll be a lot easier if the camera doesn't move. so maybe if you incorporated MLM's idea, and use several cuts of different angles, with the wide shot with the effect in the middle, it would be more convincing.
i.e.:
1) MS - boarder coming towards camera, moving R to L
2) WS - boarder approaching truck, R to L
3) MS - boarder sliding and then jumping into the air
4) WS - (same position as last WS) boarder jumping over first half of truck, R to L
5) MS - camera looking up, boarder flying overhead. (R to L, or bottom to top)
6) WS - boarder flying over last half of truck, R to L
7) MS - boarder landing the jump (going away from camera, R to L)

just an idea; some of these would have real quick cuts in between them. and you might want to have even more cuts between WS and MS to prolong the jump. don't nail yourself down to only one shot. having several angles cut in between will augment the effect and make it last longer.

good luck..
