Hey all. I've got a question concerning the DC10+ which has me somewhat perplexed.

According to the official website, when the camcorder is hooked up to the card, the card's software apparently determines the scenes and then allows you to edit them for export, thus allowing you to save hard drive space.

My question is - is it possible to od a normal capture (ie. capture your entire footage) as a high resolution mpeg or avi file, then do what you want with it (splice it, edit it in another video editing software package, etc.) then export the finished product? The company's site makes no mention of this feature, only the 'scene' one.

I think you're mistaking the DC10+ for the Studio 400 or the Studio DV. DC10+ only captures high quality. What it does is, after you capture all your footage, the software analyzes it and finds all the cuts in it and arranges them in nice clips. You then edit and output. What the Studio 400 and Studio DV does is captures the entire footage in very low preview quality, and then after you edit with that, it only re-captures in high quality the footage you use , thus saving disk space.

Ahh ok. A few more questions:

Is it possible to capture the footage and not use the software which detects the scenes? Like if I wanted to edit it in Premiere, would that be possible?

Also, can I export clips onto tape which I never imported? I'm a little confused, as the company's site makes it seem like one can only import - use their software - export.

When you capture video from within the program, it will automaticly start the scene detection process, you can click cancel. The AVI you captured could then be edited in premeire or anything. Then when you're done editing, you make sure you save it with the Studio MJPEG codec, and you can output it. You can output anything if you compress it with their codec. If you're thiking about getting one, do it! You'll be happy with it, I assure you. I've been uising Premiere with it ever since I got it and it works great.

In the settings/options/whatever menu, you select the "editing" tab, in the there is a little radio button you can uncheck to take the auto-scene detection off.

I use mine with premiere only, monitor out rocks-ass!
