How can I make a cgi character have shadows that go along the ground and against objects in footage which I have shot with my camcorder. And how can I have a person shot against a bluescreen have a shadow in a cg world. |

You need to make some geometry that matches the background. Then apply a matte/shadow material to them.Bit hard to explain in such a small space but you can find tutorials on it at 3dcafe.com. Chimp |

Ok to have somthing cg cast a shadow on live action you have to make cg objects that are almost the same as the ones in the live action then add a front-projection image map which would make the object display the background making it invisible against the background but is still able to have shadows cast on it. To have a person cast a shadow in a cg world you would have to use clip maps (think of an animated cardboard cut-out) to have the shadow coming towards or away from the camera is a no brainer. If you want it going across from the camera you will need a second camera to film from the sides and do the same as above except make it transparent. |
