I am planning on buying after effects 3.1 some time in the future. It is rather cheap now since version 4 is what's new and popular. I imagine that AE 3.1 is quite powerful. My main concern is its compositing abilities. I want to do chromakeying. I have MSP VE which does not do a very good job. Basically what I want to know is, are AE 3.1's chromakeying abilites very powerful? I figure they are from what I've seen, but I would like to have shadows composited and things like that. Know what I'm saying?Isaiah |

I'm currently using AE 4.0. I'm just starting to play around with chroma keying and video clips. until now I have only used AE for cartoons. From what I've seen if you want to do any bluescreen work with live action, you will need the prod. bundle, or a third party plugin to make it look good. something that has spill suppresion. part of my problem is that I'm using mjpeg video clip 320x240 captures. if you are editing in dv it might work OK. i wont be getting a dv camera for a few months so it would be awhile before i could tell you. |

Right, well thanks for the info. I was really hoping to get info on AE 3.1, since that's what I'm looking at. At any rate, the chromakeying in AE has GOT to be better than MSP's.Isaiah |

3.1 is still good even if 4 is now the norm. Its compositing abilities are just as good. For croma keying i would use a plugin like Ultimatte or Primatte, both AE 3.1 and 4 leave something to be desired when is comes to croma keying. |
