This is probably a no-brainer, but I just got the program. I want to superimpose a clip with a solid black background into a larger clip. I already know how to make the clip smaller and move inside the larger clip. What I want to know is how do I remove the solid black background from the larger clip? Do you do some kind of chromakeying? Please give some specific instruction. I am currently muttering my way through a tutorial book on the program, but I am having some trouble finding what I am looking for. Thanx.

If the black isn't distorted at all (it's all one shade). Try the linear color key, and select the black.

depending on how you want it to key you might want to try tranfer mode instead. choose the layer and try the tranfer mode SCREEN.

make the layer show in the main moniter, select the layer, right click > effects > Keying > Color Key, then chppse your color, and adjust to make it go away
