It's an idea that just came to me in an instant. We all complain about the cost of these almost necessary software packages, some even consider piracy as an option, which makes sense to me. Adobe and other companies seem to wish to cater to the studios and corporations who have the buying power to make $1000 purchases as miniscule as anyone of us buying a $10 roll of film. So what if a group of us banded together and payed full price for a program like premiere or after effects or in my case the cinelook plug-ins for after effects. We'd buy one license which makes it legal for that license to be held on 10 terminals (legal terminal use varies from one software company to another) That means we split the costs 10 different ways which is far more affordable and a bit more legal.

Another option is to start a small company that's designed just to purchase software licenses and for general use but not abuse.

What do ya think?

Thats a clever loophole. Sounds like a good idea to me. Now if only i had after effects.

Frank, have you checked the concurrent licensing on Cinelook? While it's a cool idea, I don't think doing it this way will in any way keep it legal. Most companies don't even offer concurrent licensing any more, and typically the ones that do require you to use some kind of monitoring tool to keep it legal.

Not that this should really stop anyone, I think we've established that most of us on the board aren't terribly concerned about software licensing...

In the case of cinelook I don't think they allow concurrent licensing at all. They very strictly only release one license. But it would appear to be a good idea for other packages. And yes, I realise most people on the board wouldn't loose sleep over breaking a license agreement.

I think that is a great idea and I will split whatever costs with you. I got photoshop, premiere, illustrator and others from a "wealthy" friend that had a cdrw. I think that if adobe can sell those products for that much money...they deserve to be cheated a couple times. Please e-mail me with any updates.
