For a short film I'm making I have a scene in which an actor is lying in a bathtub filled with ice. Since I don't want to freeze my actor I need to come up with some sort of fake ice. It doesn't really matter if these are cubes or otherwise shaped. Can anybody give me some tips on this? thanks, peter |

Cast some clear resin into what ever shape you want the ice to be? |

Just a brain fart; take this as you wish: how about styrofoam peanuts? The white kind, obviously. Get your guy in the tub, fill it with styrofoam peanuts, and then try one of the following:1. Spray the top layer with Pam. Yeah, it's a nutso idea, but it should make the peanuts sparkle a little like ice. 2. Put a layer of icecubes on top of the peanuts. The camera only sees the real ice cubes, and some of the white of the styrofoam, which will look like ice, probably. Then again, maybe not... ------------------ TL daa Productions Nobody lives forever, so you might as well go out with a good caffeine buzz... I have an idea! It's fantastically brilliant and it will look 100% real! Use real ice. That's all. Just using the real thing will make the shot look real. Just put the ice in the tub, and wait until the last minute to put your actor in. Of course he would have to actually do it, but I would if I had to for a shot. Just be sure to have plenty of blankets fresh from the dryer waiting after the shot. And also he won't have to ACT like he is cold! Oh and also don't leave him in there for more than 45 seconds. If you have to do it again, come back later with a fresh batch of ice. It might help if you fill the tub half way with scolding hot water, and then put in the ice RIGHT before the actor gets in. Happy Shrinkage!

No no no. That just won't do. You have to freeze him. It's the only way. Then, years later, you can pull him out of the tub and shoot a movie. You can call it, "Forever Young". And ou can get Mel Gibson to star in it again. He'll do just about anything these days...... |

Oh BTW, I actually tried this, just for ****s and giggles. It is not THAT bad. I have thought of an alternative. It might not work though. What about saran wrap? If you crumpled it up and put it on top of the actor? (Not over his face of course) But like, around him or where ever you needed it. Then just add the sound effect later, or if you don't have acsess to that kind of program, do it live with a bucket of ice or something. |

Just a thought. If you have the budget you could use a diving suit (whatever theyre called) to keep from getting hypothermia (sp) and then put over that a flesh colored body suit (leotard). The 'real' ice will obscure the actors body. Wait is he suppose to be naked? If not then the diving suit idea would work even better because he could just wear his clothes over it and still keep warm.

At most grocery stores I believe you can buy fake ice cubes called "The Amazing Cubies" They arent to expensive...maybe costing around 20 dollars for what you need. They are plastic ice cube-shaped water filled things, and if your shot isn't increadably close up, they can look like ice-cubes.------------------ ~Bokista Productions~ --BAK Films Inc.--

Cast Acrylic Resin fake cubes are sold for window displays & photo shoots but are too expensive to bother with.Get a bunch of old ice cube trays from flea markets/resale shops. Fill with the least expensive clear silicone caulk you can find, but be sure to encapsulate a bubble of air to make them float. ------------------ Jeff F - Magic and FX Amazing the Masses

If you want sheets of ice between the cubes, like the water would have frozen, melt paraffin in a cattle and pour it in the water (when the actor is not in the tub). This should make a nice, thin, floating layer of "ice". |

Um, try pretending to freeze some fake water. That should do it!Yes, I know that was no help what so ever. I felt compelled to be goofy. ------------------ Another quality NIKE comment

If you are fast enough you can drop the ice into the tub, have the actor jump in, shoot, and finish before the water starts to get really cold.Get chunks of clear plastic for non-ice cube like ice. Did you want ice cubes like everyone mentioned or did you want the tub to look like it froze over? |
