Ok, I would like to know how I can achive the effect of someone punching through a persons chest standing up. I don't have anything other than what I can find in my house (I cant make a body cast or anything like that). Any ideas will be apreciated. ------------------ when life's tough or dull MAKE A MOVIE!! please visit my web page: http://come.to/ramons-spielberg-page |

The only thing I can think of would be to make a hollow papier mache torso, and cut to a close up of someone punching through a hole/channel cut into it: Side angle shot. Put an identical shirt costume on the dummy body for this shot. The actor punching through the body is going to need to get blood all over their hand. I hope you already have stage blood OR Light corn syrup, red food color, etc. at home, because catsup or red paint used for blood looks ridiculous. Without seeing an inventory of what you happen to have on hand, it is hard to advise you. Do you have plaster? Make up? Paint? Tight budgets often spur creative solutions, but there is a limit. Lock someone in a closet with nothing but #10 business envelopes and masking tape and tell them have to make a drill press and a fax machine before you'll let them out and even MacGiver would be out of luck. ------------------ Jeff F - Magic and FX Amazing the Masses

paper mache is newspaper and a "special" type of glue. the glue is a thick flower/water mix. Maybe 2 parts flower and 1 part water. It should be a thick paste and will dry to a type of glue. Make this, get some newpaper, rip it up and experiment with it. |

I had to do a shot like this. I had no idea what I was doning at the time, so I found some duct tape and old sheets of foam and made a dummy. It only had to look good from the chect to the torso, so I did not even make a good head on it. Just cut the foam sheets and tape them into shapes. The arms are very easy, like tubes with shape(a note: at each joint, make a new piece and tape it there. you geta a good range of places to set the arms/legs). All it really is is rolling up the foam for the chest. Put some sticks in the legs and/or the arms, and make a cut in the front and back of the chest so you can slip a hand in and out(I had fun filling the space inside with chunks of latex and "Guts", a.k.a. household food; if you do so, satnd back! Trust me!). This is not as simple as other ways, but if you can get the foam it should look a bit better. Cyber |

You could also try rotoscoping in the blood and stuff... you get the idea. <== (a much less messy soloution for sure!) |
