I'm trying to teach myself how to use real film as opposed to video and I'm starting with 8mm. I checked out a bunch of books from the library and cannot seem to find xome crucial info. Does each cartridge of super 8 film come with 5o feet of film and how long does that work out to in real time? One book said something about 50 feet=1 minute. If that is the case, it's very discouraging. If I just misread it, please correct me.Thanks. ------------------ Nobody ever accused me of being cool. |

Dont be discouraged, you were mistaken. Its about 3 1/2 minutes total if you shoot at the standard super 8 speed of 18fps. Which works out to 3 cartridges for every ten minutes. So you could conceivably make a 10 minute short with 3 cartridges (about $60 for film and processing) as long as you dont make mistakes or need more than a few takes. Each cartridge comes with 50 feet of film no more no less. They only make 50ft rolls. Your going to the library when you have the internet? If you need some super 8 links just holler. Start by going here these guys are much more knowledgable than I am. Theyll answer all your questions in detail. http://server3.ezboard.com/fgaragefilmgaragefilm

Also, check out Mike Nyberg's website. He is the guru when it comes to Super 8 and his site is geared towards the beginner, although he has great ideas for the advanced Super 8 filmmaker as well. Check it out and tell me what you think: <http://www.super8filmaker.com> -Lil' Scorcese |
