I noticed in some recent La Femme Nikita episodes that they're using some sort of new prop handguns that I've never seen before. For the scenes where the guns aren't being fired it looks like they're using actual berettas, but the guns that they fire are a little different. The slides don't blow back and there aren't any shells being ejected. It definitely doesn't look like the muzzle flash was added in post judging from the smoke, reflections, debris etc. When the gun is pointed at camera it looks like the barrel, body, and slide are one molded piece. Does anyone have any info about what they're using?COS |

It could be piezo igniter props. You know the piezo spark igniter thingys for lighting gas fires etc. A friend of mine has been working on a small gas bottle ignition system for prop guns that fire a quick burst of flame out the end of the barrel, with sound being added in post. These are mainly for sci-fi guns because, as you pointed out, nothing moves and no shells are ejected. He is also trying to fit a mechanism that does eject shells but only for rifle type weapons. |

If you've seen "The Demolitionist", the mini-machine gun that Nicole Eggert used is exactly what you described. A tiny acetylene cylinder provided the fuel. |

Isn't that the movie that one of the KNB guys directed? I'm gonna have to check that one out. |

Yes it is (Bob Kurtzman) As a matter of fact, I am one of Mad Dog's gang, and am recognizible in about 4 or 5 shots. | |
