I have heard of minidisc recorders, and i was wondering if I could easily put the sound onto my computer, (i.e. into adobe premier)
Also in my search for film sound, I have come over something called a DAT. I am curious as to what that is, where can I get one, price, etc.
Thanks in advance!

I dunno what dat is.

Haha. Sorry, anyways it stands for digital audio tape. Their way more than minidisks. About a couple hundred more. You can on ebay for cheaper but Id just go with minidisk.

A new DAT machine would run you about $1200! A MiniDisc recorder will get you by.

A DAT is an expensive, fairly bulky tape recorder. Sure it does digital, but if Jabba's price estimate is correct, you'd be better of with MiniDisc. I just bought one from Sears last night for $180 (open box buy). They have a good handheld for $200, and that sounds about the norm. If you use a good mike, the recording quality is excellent. Go for the small, cheap (relatively) MD. I'd rather carry a walkman size unit than a small briefcase DAT.

He's right- I have a Sharp, and it's excellent. Unfortunately, the DAT is still industry standard. I was in NYC this weekend to document the Big Shot on the USS Intrepid. It was fun, but man! I was wearing a 25 pound battery belt, a 6 pound DAT deck (Sony TCD-D10), boompole, XLR cable, spare batteries for the camera guy. All I could think about was my 12 oz. MD back at the hotel. Unless you'll be freelancing for PBS, buy MD.

To see a dat in action just watch The Blair Witch Project.

Basically, I'm gonna walk the earth. You know like Kane in Kung Fu just walk from town to town, meet people, get into adventures, until GOD puts me where HE wants me to be. And if it takes forever, I'll wait forever.

DAT is Digital Audio Tape.

Sony's MiniDisk is the way to go.

You can rearrange music in any sequence, just like programming a CD. This comes in handy!

Do you guys use a Minidisc with film? How does that work with syncing it up later on? Any problems with sync sound?
