I have heard that they use the VX1000 in all of the X Games on ESPN and it is also used in broadcast sometimes, is it better than the XL-1?

read the newsgroups and you'll find the overwhelming opinion to be that the xl1 is sshhiitt.

Its defective. To learn more go here and click on "Canon XL-1 video camera":

I read both of the websites. The first one really freaked me out, because I've heard some many good things about the XL1. I was looking to buy one this coming year. That news kind of backed up my decision. I want to know if anyone else in here has had problems with their XL1. I really think that could have been one of those rare instances, but if something similiar to that has happened to others, I may just consider using the regular 8mm's I have. The Sony seems like a good camera too, but it just seems like the XL1 has better features. I want to hear some more posts on this subject.

You want to check http://www.dvlive.com.

It's one of many sites that compares the VX1000, XL-1 TRV900 and PD100.

Let me put it this way - NEITHER camera is great.

The canon has SERIOUS focus issues, is not the greates balance, extra lenses for it have been limited to photo optics and manual focus.

The VX1000 is small, and has problems of its own (I can't remember them all off hand).

If you're gonna buy a higher end camcorder. Take a look at the new JVC 500 that is coming out. Really nice, lots of nice features. 1/2" CCD's - better then the 1/3's in the sony and the canon, standard 1/2 " bayonet mount allowing you to use a huge variety of 1/2" lenses. generally a nice camera. There is also a special on it until december, like $1K off the regular price w/ a 14:1 zoom lens.

I've seen some footage shot from this camera, and it looks nice. I also have heard that it is VERY backordered, but I am not sure.

What camera would you rate the best between the the GL1, Sony dcr-trv900, and the Panasonic ag-ez30u? I'm leaning toward the Sony because I believe it is the best in low light situations. Also Ohio, I couldn't find where they make the camparison on the cameras. Where exactly is that located at, once you get to the site?

Thanks,

http://www.dvlive.com/1998/1198/camerasextra1198.html.

Sorry.

This is actually a pretty slick website with free software demos, tutorials, etc., on digital video.

What a second---I just looked through it and there's nothing on the cameras you're talking about. I know this article is here someplace...

Try this one---I haven't had my coffee or my Toaster Streudel yet, so I'm a little stupider than usual.
There's a bunch of stuff here---
http://www.dvcentral.org/links.html

Also, that new JVC GY-DV500U camera I think is going to list for $4995---you could get a Sony DSR200 (saw a used one for $4400) or DSR300 for that kind of money. Still 1/2" chips, lolux and a better way of handling audio...

I've heard the VX2000 is going to be out any day now (believe it when I see it).

So, I'm sorry for the bad link---I thought that was the one to this chart. I'm pretty sure you cound find it with a search.

Let's just all split the cost on a JVC GY-DV500. Nice camera for 5,000. I'm going to get that camera somehow.
