Hi everybody, I'm Dr. Nick! Ahhh. I love the Simpsons. Anyway, I recently saw a movie on HBO. It was called Box of Moonlight, starring John Tuturro and Sam Rockwell. Now, for anyone that has seen the movie, I agree that it was kind of corny. (BTW, Box of Moonlight came out in theaters December 1997.) No one needs another film in the Guy meets old friend who just happens to be a naturalist and finds a piece of himself that he lost in the "real"-world genre, but I love the movie. I even bought it on DVD from some internet place. It is a "guilty pleasure" for me. Hence the topic name.My question to you people is, what is your favorite film that, well, didn't really do well at the box office, or was not liked by many, or that many people didn't see. Or even independant films. It doesn't have to be a list, just like one or two. The reason I am doing this is because I would like to broaden my horizons, and see some movies that I might not have seen otherwise. I think it would be good for everyone else too. So, everyone respond if you'd like. Thanks. PS- I'd like to hear from Dale too. I don't recall ever hearing about his favorite movies yet. The first to come to mind is "Wing Commander". Critically panned, not liked by many. But I watch it, and just drool. The effects rocked, and were all CGI. They were all stuff that I could do. I guess I watch it, and think "I could do that..." BTW: look up Wing Commander on http://www.imdb.com ; my review is the one listed for the movie... Other guilty pleasure movies would probably be anything with "Stippers" in the title

I love obscure horror films, so none really ever go to the box office. Anyway, I have a lot of guilty films that were generally panned. My favorite one is "Zombie", a Lucio Fulci film. Maltin gives it a BOMB, my Video Movie Guide gives it a TURKEY, but I love it and think it's loads better than the horrible "Dawn of the Dead". Another critically-bashed, but personal favorite is "Lolita" (the new version). It's the best movie ever made, but was panned because of the subject matter. I also typed a review for this film not only on the IMDb (www.imdb.com), but also for Amazon.com |

Kung fu movies. Anything Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Samo Hung. Love Michelle Khan. Just watched "The Legend of the Seven Golden Vampires" a horrifyingly bad kung fu-horror movie starring Peter Cushing (!).------------------ Yes, I am an agent of Satan, but my duties are largely ceremonial. |

I haven't seen those movies in forever, but I think I liked Dick Tracy. With Madonna right? Yep I liked it. Anyway, I posted that I saw this movie Butterfly Collectors, well, it's not a movie. I don't know what it is. I found out more about it though. I think it is a miniseries or some kind of original HBO thing because it has different "episodes". The stars are Pete Postlewaith as Inspector McKeown and Jamie Draven as Dex. I love it and it is now my favorite thing I've seen on TV. Has anyone else seen it? Can anyone tell me more about it? Pleeeeaassseee!!!! PS- I found out that it was a 2-parter then I edited this post but I still want to know if anyone has seen it, and their view on it. Thanks! Lost Highway by David Lynch. This movie was not made for the masses. The masses are idiot s who cannot appreciate true cinematic mastepieces, but rather praise crap like Armageddon. Lost Highway isn't Lynch's best work, but it is damn cool, weird, and freakin' confusing. Reminds me of many of Kubrick's works that are open to interpretation. |

a lot of people have heard of "all quiet on the western front" and it wasn't really low budget or independent, but there aren't many teens nowadays that have seen it because it is a bit older, and kids tend to shy away from the 'oldies.' I'm only 16, but i loved the movie, and if you havent seen it, you should check it out. |

Return of the Killer Tomatoes! I actually think this is a good movie. Quite funny. Stars John "Gomez" Austin and George "E.R." Clooney! Stupid humour, I love it. I heard there was a sequel, "The Killer Tomatoes Go To France" but have never seen it any where.

Holy ****. I have two movies i recomend seeing only because they are the worst movies i have ever seen. 1)Jack frost, ok this movie was so f ucking dumb. I watched it while i was stoned though, it was funny as hell 2)Bringing out the dead, what can i say but holy **** its bad. There is one really funny part though. Nick takes some drugs and pictures this guy sayin "I am the japanese sandman" then you hear a voice go "He looka lika japanese sandman!!" in a really high pitched yell tupe of voice. Holy **** its funny Laughing is fun ------------------ "There is no spoon..."

To whoever posted about Waxwork, I thought it was pretty cool too, and about Jack Frost, it IS DEFINATELY the worst f ucking movie I have ever seen. I was expecting to see the goddamn zipper on the suit. Another good movie, I think, is Billy's First Hollywood Screen Kiss. I really hate movies from it's genre, mostly chick-flick, but I liked this one, I don't know why..... |

Wait a minute, I see some of these movies here, and I see many of them that are classics. I thought they hgad to be movies that the critics hated. Oh well, no matter. Im with you, I love dick tracy, the rocketeer, and...well...I still havent seen the nightmare before christmas, but I really want too. lessee....well, I dont keep it a secret, but I love the Cable Guy. I mean, cmon, it was a damn good movie! Oddly enough, I sympathized with both the cable guy and the main charachter....I mean, all the cable guy wanted was a friend, cmon. I dunno, maybe its just me.................... |

A recent production "Do you wanna Dance?" produced and acted by Robert Krantz. I met him on Sunday at screening in Philadelphia. You can find it a www.ellinasproductions.com He got about 1 mil to make it but it only went to the BIG screen it Chicago. I know this really doesn't count, but I think (even though I'm a teenager)as we get more modern and high-tech, we lose that romantic and majestic feel you get from watching these older, epic-style films (as Caeser mentioned, Ben-Hur, and Spartacus. Also Cleopatra.) I haven't seen something like that in years. I am always in awe when I see legions in gleaming armor marching across the screen. I think it's high time for another epic, but with a bit more 90's love and action. That's all. -Spock ------------------ Live long and profit |

Hehe. You mean the one in the section that houses LEPRECHAUN 4: leprechaun in space? Or what about Femalien?I personally like the anime Mermaid's Scar. My review is on the imdb. It's not well known as far as even animes go, and thats a crying shame. It's prequel, Mermaid forest, is NOT as cool. Oh, and let's not forget Ninja Scroll. As far as normal movies, has ANYONE heard of Buckaroo Bonzai: Across the 8th Dimension? It starred Peter Wellers, Clancy Brown, Christopher Lloyd, and John Lithgow, and is very, very cheesy. It's awesome. ------------------ I'm young and I make movies...a product of our society? |

Ok Ive had enough of this, ive been silent long enogh. You cannot name good movies as guilty pleasures! A guilty pleasure for those of you who dont know is something that you should feel guilty for liking, something you would be embarrased to admit to liking. It is not a guilty pleasure to like 2001 or a clockwork orange or taxi driver or just about all webmaster dales list. Get a freakin clue! |
