I am contemplating integrating a very nifty and interactive make-up a Spfx retail operation into these resources as I need some income... So If you have suggestions as to what you would like to see in the shopping carts, now would be a good time to suggest them... I hope to feature some of my own make-up kits (things I would like to have). Also Ben Nye stuff and general stage and film make-up supplies. Latex and what-not. What I hope to have that the other guys don't is
- 1. A creative approach.
- 2. A really nifty, interactive and integrated shopping cart designed by a cgi web developer (me).
So if you have any make-up or Spfx products in mind that you would like to see online for purchase, post to this thread... ------------------ Webmaster Dale (Administrator for Likeastory Forums.) mabye a place to buy masks and costumes made by "unknowns" like us. I am always looking for costume ideas and everybody seems to be selling the same "Party City" costumes! If you have any thoughts on if someone would buy good costumes I spent $800 on the real Batman and Robin costumes and they were garbarage! |

My bet is that these would go, since there are questions raised about them and where to find them:* Liquid Latex * 300 Bloom Gelatin * Sorbitol * Derma Wax I buy this stuff all the time, and if it will help you and LAS I'll gladly shop here since I know you will carry only good quality supplies. I know your prices would be competitive I'd even pay a sheckel or two more since it is for a worthy cause! The web is indeed a good place to shop for deals, but the absolute lowest price is not always the best deal. I have heard plenty of horror stories about shopping online. I don't do a tremendous amount of it and even I have been burned. Gang, this guy is almost too honest for his own good (if such a thing is possible) and I'd welcome another source I can trust. ------------------ Jeff F - Moderator Magic and FX Amazing the Masses [This message has been edited by Jeff F (edited 08-11-2000).] |

this might not be practical, but what aobut te "BIG BOOKS" that we're always pitching to the new-to-the-craft? Stage makeup, prop builders M&C handbook, and the theater props handbookas for actual supplies, how about some of the "starter" type kits, or maybe a basic lifecasting kit? i wouldnt mind seeing most of the other stuff that has been mentioned either. polyfoam props (like grenades ) later TOm

Ready-made appliances with good edges. I know a "real" makeup artist would never use such things but us "hobbist" (why do I feel like I'm in an Austin Power movie all the time?) could use some help when it isn't practical or necessary to do life casts on everyone who needs an appliance for a particular gag. |

I am betting that some pre-made sets FX props would be welcome, such as blood letting knives, or the retractable blade knives mentioned here (along with a matching prop) fairly often.Yes? No? How about lighweight polyfoam axes or bayonets, etc for cut out effects or those where a weapon is apparently imbedded in an attacker? Let's see those opinions - Interested? Not?

Yeah I think that is a good Idea. I would probably buy some if they were at a resonable price. Can't wait for them to come out! |

well i stumbled onto this looking into something else...thought you guys interested in making molds or "cheap kits" might find it interesting http://www.smooth-on.com/Brochures/lowcost%20sampler.htm later TOm quote: I note the one time limitation on ordering. Nice alternative to giving out free samples or having to order the standard smallest sizes of various products.

Has anyone mentioned Blood? I know blood is easy to get from nearby shops but good quality blood isn't as easy to get.Maybe some Eye Blood too, since I can't find it anywhere. Also excuse my ignorance but is Derma Wax the same as Morticians Wax? Just wondering because I aquired some Morticians wax before and found it very useful now I don't know where to get it. quote: Same stuff, two names for two industries. Formulas for it vary from company to company, providing a variety of softnesses and stickinesses. Mehron's is fine and reasonably priced. Jeff F

how about disposable stuff, like gloves, they are always useful, maybe they could be free with products. also it would be a good idea to have sets that have everything you need for sculpting, casting, molding, etc |

How about sculpting handbooks? Everyone assumes that you know who to sculpt but for some of us (like me) it is our first time at this medium. Mabye a tutorial on devolping different mask or appliance types. Tips and tricks would be nice too...... just a thought. |

Yeah, I like the props idea. I think I remember seeing some time ago this powder thing that would make large quantities of blood, its probably not good for close up, but it seems pretty useful for using on the set. I also saw a site that explained how to make your own masks, but you needed a bunch of materials. You could make the site with each material mentioned available to buy online.BTW: Anyone know the url of that site? ------------------ "I make a film like I cook for friends. I'd buy latex, dental supplies, books, videos, possibly clay, and I'd like to get into silicone if I can find it at a decent price.------------------ **AOL IM - EyesRMaced**e-mail - dedhorse@ev1.net |

I'll go with the easy European delivery thang - I don't think you guys realise how much stuff you take for granted in the US. I'd say about 80% of the stuff talked about in these forums is not readily avaliable in Europe (maybe in London but then only to the industry)Oh yeah, and while I have my pedant hat on, Dale, 'integrating' I think is what you're look for rather than 'ingratiating'. Sorry, you see, starved as we are of decent make-up supplies over here, we are forced to spend long endless nights correcting people's spelling. |

Basically what Jeff said, some prop weapons that have channels for blood etc. As well as some pre maid appliances (maybe in kits with the glue etc).A good fake tattoo kit. Tools for sculpting. |

"rentable" props to be loaned, or rented at 1/4 the purchase price. these could have been donated to likeastory or possibly bought with membership fees.something that's goin to be used for one movie. like a prop thompson submachine gun for a 20's type movie, or how about an abrams a1a with tow rockets? |

I think that there are several products that would be of high demand, and would sell well. They are:Liquid Latex Spirit Gum + Remover Basic Makeup for skin tones, and wounds (ie, a makeup stack) Some standard issue scar, scab, and burn kits. Grease Sticks By the way Dale, I think that this is a great idea. But then again, when do you ever NOT have good ideas. ------------------ "May the Force be with you." Books for complete idiots and newbies to the whole make-up aspect of moviemaking . This is specifically for me , and yeah i know that a book won't be able to teach me what i would probably learn over time with experience . |
