Allright I am making a fan made sequel to Evil Dead. I need to know how to make.. For Cheap some of the following effects.. I am probably using the same amount of money Sam Raimi used for Evil Dead a mere 1500 bucks. The following effects I need to know how to do. Someone who looks like they are floating in mid air. I am going for Raimi style so no blue screens. The overexagerated blood sequence. Every Evil Dead movie has it.. No aparent reason whatsoever vast amount of blood is used in one part.. So how would I tackle this scene. White eyes.. Is there eye drops I can use to to do this. Like I said I have a limited budget and I can't just spend it on 3 different pairs of contact lenses. If there is eye drops where can I get it. Thank you, Tony Lewis |

be more specific on your BLOOD SCENE. Are you asking to how to make large amounts of blood or are you asking us to plan and write a scene with massive amounts of blood?Floating- take to one of the other forums. The eyes, you can make white eye appliances which cover the eye socket. |

I'd say you can ether use cables hidden on the actor that will mix with the color of the back ground.is hidden with the persons clothing to give Have a person stand on a thin like tablethat the effect that they are floating.Or you can capture a signal frame. Each shot as the person jumps in the air making it look like they are floating. You would ether have to have a camera with this selection of recording built into it, or use a capture card from the computer and set it to manual capture. Then capture each shot as the person is in mid air of his or her jump. If anyone has a better idea I'd like no know how. Remeber it's an effect that isn't going to have the blue screen as an option. Okay you don't have to get snooty i NEED like in evil dead 2 when all the blood is projected from the wall how do they accomplish this? And if so how could I get that much blood? |

That's much better. Anyway I'm thinking chambers created behind the wall at the hole and large tubes and or pipes to carry the blood, some kind of large pump to send the blood flying(or low powered air cannon of some sort). Maybe a water pump of some kind. It would have to be planned more and you'll need to look around hardware stores and places of sort to see what you can get and figure out what would suit your needs best. For the blood- VERY watered down cornsyrup can work or you can use a combination of cornsyrup and mb2(1 tsp flower to one cup water boiled down). Boil as much of the mb2 you need and mix it with your cornsyrup, then add more water if neccessary. Of course add color as well. |

In The Beyond, Fulci used contact lenses for the parts when the peoples eyes turned white. |

Well, i can help out a bit here.for the Evil Dead style floating effect just <deleted> for the white eyes there are very cheap contacts you can buy and just use one pair for the whole crew and just use a bit of creative shots to hide that fact like avoiding having more than one deadite in any close shots. for the blood that came out of the wall in ED2--well they used gallons upon gallons of it and it cost quite a bit. The budegt for ED1 was roughly 50 000 bucks but ED2 had a budget of 3 MILLION so they were easily able to do this. In ED1 they couldnt do this because of finance reasons, so neaither will you. They pumped out so much blood in that scne that the school gym that the movie set was located in was completely flooded. ED1 had a very toned down blood sequence in teh basement towards the end there that would be fairly easy to accomplish. i think they used some sort of mechanical air compression water pump to get it to jet out like that. you can get them from normal hardware stores but they are a bit pricey for such a small budget. the blood, as someone already noted, was very watered down to reduce cost. im not sure it may be practical to do the blood pumping scene unless it is outdoors but then it would be extremely hard to set up everything. if you have access to any post production CG/compositing software it could work but i wouldnt get your hopes up. ------------------ i'll swallow your soul! For the floating, put a bicycle seat on the end of a pipe arranged sea-saw fashion. The fulcrum can be hidden by the actor in the scene. The pivot point could be cut out of the fulcrum pipe and the lever (sea-saw) inserted into it and held by bolts & nuts. The other end pulled down by using cables and pulleys and a grip off screen.

If you want to do a really cheap and easy floating scene, you can do the following:1. Shoot the person's legs. As you do this, the person could be hanging onto something off camera. 2. Cut filming and go to the person's upper body. Have the person stand on a box or something. Just make sure you don't show too low. Otherwise, it would ruin the illusion. My Two Bits, Bread |

More than 1500 was used to make ED, 1500 was used to make "With in the woods"...but now a days you could probably make it on 1500.... |

I have some old issues of Fangoria that report Evil Dead was produced for $300,000. Remember, this was before the video revolution. They shot that masterpiece on 16mm. |
