are you planning on making them yourself or having them made? Well, they don't need to be exact to the game but they need to have resemblance correct? So look at the game and study the costumes. Make sketches not just of how they look in the game but adding to them and altering them the way you want them to look. As far as making them, well make-up is my thing. I know(or knew) people who could probably make them but that wouldn't do much good to you. sorry that I am totally unhelpful at this point(I just woke up too).

well, the obvious answer is to plan a trip to the local resale and fabric stores, find someone with some sewing skills and sharpen them scissors!

the easiest way is to find some stuff that looks like it'll work as the basic outfit, then find some stuff to jazz it up at the fabric store. cut it up, sew it together and voila!

as far as facemasks or anything like that goes, i know that it's been asked before, check the physical fx forum

Yo, i was thinking about using vinyl or some type of rubber-y material for the V shapes on the ninja costumes......what do you think......would you say wal-mart would be a good choice for material>?

walmart could be a good start, although the larger fabric "only" stores usually have odder more exotic looking materials.

honestly a strange looking material with a foam stuck inside of it might make a nice "V" shaped...thingy. a dense foam that is, similar to the foam that is found in life jackets.

Hey,

I'm going to be playing the character "Johnny Cage" in this film, So thats quite and easy costume to make..

Were running on a tight budget, so any money saving ideas for any of the costumes would be much appreciated..

I was thinking about it today and came up with a little something.

For sub-zero and scorpion you could use a slightly altered, long sleeve, black turtle neck shirt. The v part can go over this.
of course Johnny cage and curtis stryker will be the easiest. I can't remember the details of the costumes from the fourth game however.
Hope this helps and puts you on the right track or gives you at least a few other ideas.

While at those fabric stores, bring sketches and reference photos of the costumes and head back to the patterns area. There are many sewing pattern companies with a variety of simple ones. Look through the books and pay attention to the shapes of the garments - ignore the colors, which you'll be altering to match the originals. You'd be surprised how little it takes to alter standard designs and transform them into costumes.

For scoprion and subzero,
get some black material similar to the body part of the costume and make a hood, then use the material used for the V section to make the part which covers the face.

I can't remember what shinnok looked like in detail, but you may be able to pull him off with basic character make-up techniques(not prosthetics).

So basically use material for the masks?

you could use material for them, or you could sculpt/mold/cast them

its all up to you, your budget, your abilities, etc....

you could find some masks that look good and alter them, like dirtbike or paintball masks

noob saibot is just a shadow!

it may be hard, but you could use a guy completely dressed in black.
or
a cg character
or
a stopmotion character (action figure painted black.

I was thinking about using old bath towels with triangularish holes cut in them for the v-shaped thingies. Might look like crap, I dunno, I havent tried it yet.

I always thought of scorpion as the good guy, btw. I feel his pain.

Yeah, that bath towl idea has potential......but if its all puffy, it might not fit it right.....but those non puffy ones might work....
