Is there anyone out there that knows where there is safe, blue body color or how to make some yourself? I'm not planning to use this in any films (yet), but I just feel like wearing some to school some day to freak everyone out.

Thanks,
TrollHunter

Well if you must. Theres two diferent things i know of, if you want to dye your skin blue for a week or so bathe in food coloring THIS IS SAFE. Or if you want it jsut for the day get some liquid latex mix it with blue acrylic paint or food coloring as pigment. Then paint it onto yourself.

1) Check your school policies first. The high school my wife teaches at would send a kid home or to the bathroom to wash up if they showed up looking like the little girl from Willy Wonka. Many schools have dress codes and other rules prohibiting appeating in a distracting manner without specific permission (sancitioned events - backwards clothes day, guys dressed as cheerleaders to advertise a powderpuff football game, whatever.) When I go in several times a year to do a week of workshops on Make up FX with her drama classes, the students have to remove any make up that is on their faces before attending their other classes.

2) I Do Not recommend using liquid latex directly on large areas of skin. Latex can be very hard to remove from hairy areas of skin, I wouldn't experiment with it for large area coverage. The products sold for such use in fetish shops has a very low solid rubbers content (so it doesn't stick as much - you can do this by adding a great deal of skin friendly colorants and neutral matter to deammoniated latex) and they recommend that people shave their bodies- something I doubt you're willing to do for a simple gag.

You are much better off with some blue body paint, also as sold as face paint and used for painting designs on people at fairs. This washes off easily.

As Goremaster suggests - any make up is a reasonable approach. Get a decent sized container of blue greasepaint, apply it, and powder it with translucent setting powder. If you are worried about it rubbing off where your clothing touches it, spray on a make up sealor like Hanz & Neck to protect it.

I recommend that you use pancake makeup. It comes in a tin. You apply it with a damp sponge. It is not greasy and easily washes off with soap and water. This is what pancake makeup was designed for. It may rub off on your clothes after a while but you can help prevent that by spaying it with hair spray that contains PVP.

I'd be careful, I heard somewhere that if u put paint on your intire body, your skin will sufficate, or something like that. I doubt that is true, but just wanted to warn you.

I heard that too... that's why I'm gonna take a bath in blue food coloring instead of painting my skin with paint.

The rumors that paint covering most or all of the skin causng suffocation are just that - stories. A number of Urban Legends web sites have debunked this, which is an old idea based on the outmoded belief that humans breathe partly through their skin like some creatures are capable of doing.

Clogging your pores for extended periods of time is more likely to cause a bit of acne, rarely anything more serious than that unless you have certain medical conditions or disorders.

But I'm very glad to see that you are thinking in terms of safety!

Hey Jeff - You bring up some valid arguments. And while it is true that you skin does not breath, it can in a way be "sufficated". You skin needs to be exposed to light, and cant be kept tighly covered for too long. I am sure you all know what is like to get a bad cut on your finger. You put a bandaid on it, and a few days later, when you take it off (if its a gauze bandage) or when you go to change it, your skin is white, and puffy. The whiteness is due to it not recieving light. Without the light, there is nothing to stimulate the pigments. As far as the puffyness, this is caused by several things, but mostly because of the mosture that builds up under the bandaid, from perspriration and such. It gets re-absorbed into the skin. It is kinda like after you have been in the shower, or a pool too long. In these cases, the reality is that your fingers dont actually "shrivel up", they expand. Your skin absorbs the moisture, and parts of it swell up, while others stay the same.

Neither of these two problems really exists with makeup though. The only problem you might face, is having to wash a couple fo times to get it all out.

Well, today was the day.
I went to school covered in BLUE.
Here's what I did:
I applied food coloring on Thurseday night, hoping the color would sleightly fade overnight. To apply it, I sqeezed a drop of the blue into my hand and rubbed it in on my face, arms, legs, etc. It seemed to work... although the color did fade during the school day.

Overall, this did work,

Thanks,
Trollhunter

Sit in a bathtub full of ice cold water for ten minutes then go to school. I bet you will better than any make-up out there!
