You can build up the area around the eye with derma wax (also called mortician's wax and a variety of other names) and seal it before applying greasepaint. The exact technique would take a great deal of space to describe in complete detail, you're better off getting a copy of Corson's Stage Make Up or other make up book. If english is difficult for you, don't give up - someone has to have translated one or more make up books into other languges.Foam gelatin or even a regular gelatin formula can make a nice prosthetic piece, but you will first have to sculpt it in plastecine (oil based clay) and make a mold of this sculpture. The piece will fit much better if you sculpt it on top of a lifecast of the actor's face. This will help the piece to fit exactly and allow you to create nice thin blending edges for it. Gelatin (foam or otherwise) can be placed into the mold to give it the appropriate shape. I reccomend Ultracal 30 or Hydrocal instead of white art plaster, you'll have more strength in the mold. Some people skip the second piece of the mold, the partial lifecast that forms the inside surface, but I feel it is always worth the extra effort to get a proper fitting piece. Hope this helps! ------------------ Jeff F - Moderator Magic and FX Amazing the Masses [This message has been edited by Jeff F (edited 01-05-2001).] |

Derma wax alone won't hold greasepaint well enough - you need to put sealer over it (just like you put a primer on metal before painting it.) Sealor is a clear liquid plastic sold for exactly this purpose, but you can also use liquid plastic bald cap materialYou can then apply regular greasepaint on top of it. If you seal the wax with liquid latex, you will have to use RMGP on it. Mehron makes a line of matched RMGP colors to go with regular greasepaints they sell. If you apply RMGP to the skin the colors match, but it is a thick, heavy make up that doesn't look very good on skin. If you use regular grease paint on latex, the oils are absorbed and the make up shifts color and looks chalky. You can use a castor oil sealer to coat latex and apply regular greasepaint to it and the surrounding skin, you can go with two color matched make ups for rubber and skin, or you can try one of the newer water based RMGPs, which work OK and can be used on the skin to decent effect. For gelatin pieces I usually use PAX paint - 50-50 Pros Aid & Liquitex Acrylic Artist's paint. This can be made with acrylic polmer medium to create translucent colors allowing tremendous control. You can use PAX on derma wax as well - swab down the surface with rubbing alcohol first. ------------------ Jeff F - Moderator Magic and FX Amazing the Masses |
