i don't know if it would stain, but since it's in a building we can't trash i was curious.

would a standard karo based blood stain, any other ideas?

Hey Tom,

To tell the truth, I can't imagine it WOULDN'T stain. Anything with food coloring is vicious to deal with. Food coloring is pretty much like a vegetable dye I guess. And the term DYE makes you have to pause right off the bat. If you have doubts see if you can test it in a small, out of the way area just to see. Be certain to take your cleaning materials with you in case you have to scrub it up pretty quickly. But I'd say anything with food coloring is going to stain. It all depends upon how well the marble is sealed. We have marble floors all through the place I work and it does get stained even by someone spilling coffee. And that's not as strong a substance as some kind of dye. Test, test, test. But right off the top, I'd be very cautious. They DO have good strippers that will clean everything including the shine off of marble which can then be buffed back to shine. But it still might take more than one cleaning to remove it all if the marble isn't sealed well enough or if the blood is left on there too long.

Good luck.

that was my first instinct, so i headed over and looked in the B&G archive, didnt see anything like this, usually people are asking about clothes and skin.

I was given a recipe from someone recently offline that was chocolate milk, red and blue food coloring. said it wasnt so bad but i would think that since it was already darker it would tend to need more color before it would show.

well I will test, but how about a sealer of some kind? anything that could be layed over the marble or painted onto it then peeled off after the blood has been sponged off or wiped away?

I have spilled coffe on pants before and the stain never completely wash off. I have gotten a variety of stage blood on just about every pair of pants I own. It rarely leaves a stain. Especially the syrup based ones. The syrup shields most dyes. I doubt it would stain higher quality marble(like the kind at the capital building in D.C.).
But a test is recommended. I have gotten some on a stone statue. The kind of stone that absorbs a lot of the moisture and almost turns the blood into a stain. It washed off fine. However marble is unique to other stones and as said before, a test is recommended. just put a drop of it on a very inconspicuous part of the marble. Let it sit a few minutes then clean it off.
