DV codecs are used to compress digital video, which comes from a digital video camera. MPEG (the Moving Picture Experts Group) is a working group of ISO/IEC in charge of the development of international standards for compression, decompression, processing, and coded representation of moving pictures, audio and their combination. (That's according to their site at http://drogo.cselt.stet.it/mpeg/ ).You say you have a "digital 8 or high 8 or something," but you're really talking about two different beasts. A Digital 8 camera is digital video, and Hi-8 is analog (similar to S-VHS, a higher-quality VHS, Hi-8 is a higher-quality version of 8mm). Does that help? ------------------ Roland |

Yeah cool that helps, but does that mean I should get a "DV" codec capture card? I have a Sony Digital Handicam with *(I THINK)* digital-8. |

Ok- It's Hi8. So do I need a MPEG codec capture card or a DV codec capture card? I'm guessing I need the MPEG kind.... |
