IS it a good capture card for beginners. Can you use this with different software like premiere.

I appreciate all your replies

One other question. What does it mean when a capture card and editing software says ISA BUS PC and ISC plug in board. Can that be used by any computer or is it just for a certain computer.

I thank all of you for your help becuase I have no clue on any of this.

I wouldnt but the Buzz... It was discontinued. I would go to Videoguys.com they have allot so that you can compare. The buzz isnt very well supported and wont work with newer video cards according to iomega.

It is still being sold...

OK I have one and though I am dissapointed with its performance it is still a handy tool.

First off... it will grab good thumbnail videos for web use... I know ot will grab better results (it drops half the frames on a new 500 Mhz machine when grabbing at PAL resolutions) if I connected a dedicated Ultra SCSSI HDD to it... at the moment I use a slow IDE drive.

As it is also a SCSSI controler it has added uses too... Like adding that much needed SCSSI flatbed.

If you can go DV do it... if not...

If you need good quality capture you will need a FAST HDD... AV drives are good (old slow drives that were designed to take video and record it without lifting the heads and loosing data) but finding them may be difficult... go for the newer SCSSI drives or maybee a UDMA IDE...

Now as I havent tried the Buz on a desent drive I cant say if it will be up to the job, but the specs say it will... You might be best looking at a more expencive board or too as well... If you possibly can see them WORKING.

You may want to check out the Pinnacle DC10+. Look on the Buzz site for support then check out Pinnacle for the DC10+.

Either way you may have problems because of some hardware conflicts so do your research. That's why I picked the DC10 but there are other products out now which are comparable.

I bought one of Iomega's tape drives and never got it working. Their tech support was virtually non-existant. I WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY ANYTHING FROM IOMEGA!!!

ISA BUS describes the pin configuration of the card socket. It is an old bus. I don't think newer computers have it.

I have a Buz and I'm actually not to satisfied with it. Go with another capture system if you can. I am looking into getting a DC30 or 50.

Yes, ISA slots are in new computers. Most internal modems use ISA, even though they are slower than PCI.

Umm actaully most new motherboards being manufactured do not have ISA slots in them. But your most likly does, Its the bigger slot and is brown. PCI is smaller and white.

OK, don’t listen to the other people – here is the REAL deal. The buz works just as well (for me) as any other low cost capture card, but it is just that, low cost. I have used it to make some movies, and thought it was OK with premiere, then I upgraded to a DV Raptor and WOW. The cheep cards lack features like batch capture, good quality, and timeline playback (THE MOST IMPORTANT THING.) So, if you want a cheep card with cheep pictures get a buz or something like it, if you want a solution get a Raptor, other good firewire card, or a good MJPG card.

Ale

PS – Frame drops have a lot more to do with slow and incorrectly HD’s than the card, ALWAYS have a separate HD for video or you WILL drop frames.
