I'm looking to get a Sony Digital 8 camera and a firewire card to capture with. I was wondering if you guys had any recommendations on what card to buy.------------------ Andius Rex Big Hurt Productions |

I would suggest the Pinnacle Studio DV. It has firewire in and out, the card is about 200. There is another card by Pinnacle, but I can't remember the name. It is a better card, and runs around 500. It also depends on what you are wanting to do. You really do get what you pay for in a capture card. If you are wanting to use your system professionally, you will need to spend a lot more to get a card that will do what you need. Check out the Video magazines, and the web sites of companies that are making cards. You need to decide if it is mostly for fun, a little more of a passion, or for low end pro use, or a higher level. You can easily spend 30 grand on a digital edit system, some are even more.I hope this helps you out. Think about what you really need, and look at the specs on a lot of equipment. Find what you need, and can afford. ------------------ Rex Winfrey Critter Creation Shop

The card I use with my D8 camcorder is the Pinnacle DV200. It's a firewire capture card with the full Adobe Premiere, and it costs about $399. Check it out at www.videoguys.com .[This message has been edited by Mr. Hutt (edited 01-30-2000).] |
