Okay, Should I buy the DC10? I am deciding between the DC10 and the All In Wonder 128 32MB version. I have a few questions about the DC10 though. Is it easy to use? Is it compatible with Media Studio Pro? Once captured and edited, I can output back to video right (THIS IS LIKE THE MAIN QUESTION I WANT ANSWERED)? And finally, is the quality good. I know many people on this board use the DC10 so please help out. Is it the best I can buy (about 250.00 is what I have)Thanks, Mark |

One other question, Does the DC10 output like the ATI All in wonder---(I.E. you just display your desktop on the computer and play full screen.) or does it contain output (for video and audio) and it just plays the video to the vcr where you record it to tape. Thanks again, Mark |

ok. with the dc10, u can only capture and output using the the studio program. im not sure if it works with media studio pro...but what i do is capture through the dc10 program, and edit in premiere, which works great, then export again through the studio program. the way it works is this: it has in and out composite hookups. it sends to the vcr, u view the final product on ur tv and record it. the lowest quality on the dc10 is still better than the best quality on the AIW 128. capturing and exporting at 640x480...well...the quality is nearly broadcast....its superb. audio, by the way, is captured by hooking ur out on the vcr to the in on ur sound card. hope this helps. ------------------ "to be, or not to be? ...not to be!" -Last Action Hero

Thank you very much, one last question, I can find a PCI version, but do they make an AGP version? I can't find it anywhere. I looked on the ulead site, and pinnacle cards are compatible so that is good. Thanks for all the help, Mark |

LOL, tell me why you would want your capture card AGP... hehehehehehehehe. OK thats mean. AGP is for accelorating graphics processoing, for a video card, not capture. |

Forget AGP. The DC10 will capture to a maximum of 6MB a second. A good pentium and hard disk conbination far exceed this.A pentium 133 and an average harddisk will capture more than 6MB a second, and will therefore produce the optimum results in terms of quality. So adding a 20MB a second SCSI drive, a 500Mhz Pentium III, fast video card, and AGP DC10 (doesn't exist anyway) will not produce any better results than the Pentium 133 mentioned above. Just relax and go with the PCI. ------------------ Sausage's Lounge Area |

im afraid mr. sausage is gravely mistaken. a p133 with a regular hard drive may capture the same "quality", but not only will it drop frames like u wouldnt believe, but editing will be ridiculous. can u say freezes and delays? i suggest nothing less than a pII 300 for editing, or an equivalent, with at least 128 megs of ram. good luck.------------------ "to be, or not to be? ...not to be!" -Last Action Hero

No that's not entirely correct. Provided your hard disk can maintain 6mb a second transfer (and so can the IDE interface), then you should get no dropped frames. I never dropped them on my old 133 and I still don't.Dropped frames can be caused by a lot of different parameters. Using HI-8 is one. A badly fragmented drive is another. ------------------ Sausage's Lounge Area |

Is that really true a p133? I have a p200mmx with 80megs of ram, and everything i have been reading around here says I should be getting upwards of at least a pIII 400 with a million megs of ram and a hard drive bigger than the data banks under the pentagon. Is my vulnerable machine not useless? (i understand redering will be a little slow)Please give me hope! ------------------ One day flatware will rule us all

No it was a cyrix 133. I never get the offical processors. These days I'm using a Cyrix 333 with 64Mb ram, 2mb video card, 20mb harddisk. Really... I don't need anything else. Another 20mb hard disk would be nice though.I NEVER drop a frame. Of course a PIII 400 will do wonders for rendering time, but then again, why pay for it if you let it run while you do something else. I reckon, test it on your current hardware and upgrade only if you really need to. You don't need the flashiest machine with the DC10+. ------------------ Sausage's Lounge Area |

(this message contains offensive language)you can't be that dumb .....there is no PIII 400, and you cant do **** with a 20mb.....you cant even put win95 on that **** you mean a pII 400 and a 20GB! ------------------ I'm the(Canadian)showstoppa, the(Canadian) main event, the(Canadian) icon...of the low budget film industry! |

HBK, is that really necessary, all he did was misplace a couple letters. I have been computing for years, in 1988 i had an 8088 with a 20meg hard drive, now that was cutting edge. I hope you don't expect to many people to answer your questions on this board. Thanks for trying to help sausage. ------------------ One day flatware will rule us all

Yes it was a slip of the key. I think HBK knew this but decided he'd rather be ignorant anyway. I'd be surprised he can find a 20MB (not GB) drive that is capable of 6MB a second. Use your commonsense, HBK, and no offense taken I hope. Thanks for the vote of confidence, Spoonboy. ------------------ Sausage's Lounge Area |

What other post? HBK is is the one who has been complaining and writing useless posts here. I would say that he isn't older that 8 or 9 years old. Case in point: 1. "you can't be that dumb .....there is no PIII 400, and you cant do **** with a 20mb.....you cant even put win95 on that **** you mean a pII 400 and a 20GB!" 2. "are you that retarded that other kid started the post" And by the way, HBK, WHO CARES IF YOU ARE CANADIAN!!! "I always rains in Vancouver......"I'm the(Canadian)showstoppa, the(Canadian) main event, the(Canadian) icon...of the low budget film industry!".....WE DON'T CARE!!! This board is for low budget special effects, and you are complaining about a few typos! You make a post complaining that you are the origonal HeartBreak Kid...WE DON'T CARE!! GROW UP! You know what? I wouldn't be surprised if: Heartbreak Kid, HBK, Sloan, etc. are all the same punk kid that is out only to annoy everyone else! If you have something constructive to say, say it...if you don't, then keep your mouth shut!

Okay, okay. For the record, I read all of this post and every response to the original question. It was sufficiently answered but HBK, you've taken it upon yourself to continue with the insults and other unnecessary remarks. As Big Jim Slate has indicated, if you have something constructive to say, say it. But don't criticize, insult or otherwise taunt other people just for what they say. The exchange in this post has been healthy until you decided to have your negatives input here and there insulting other people. And I don't know what webmaster you've told to take the post down because "it's (?) not movie related". Let me point out that it's neither YOUR call nor your responsibility to police other people when YOU are making insults and creating problems. It's all about being constructive and if you can't be that, then I'LL call Webmaster Dale and discuss the issues you're creating with him. Then HE can decide how to deal with it. But keep it civil.FXMan |
