OpenFX is available in either binary distributions (which are compiled versions which only work one one platform), or the source code itself. If you download the source code version, you will not be able to run it out of the box unless you have a suitable set of build tools.

besides their typo, my assumption is that they mean the complied program will only work on the WIN platforms, but the source code could be adapted to others, correct?

and whats with the freaking huge file 44 megs? its a good thing my godfather is getting cable modem within the week or so.

anyone know what the actual disk space required is? it looks promising

22 Megs for the small download??? What the hell is the size of the full archive?! This software would want to be pretty damb good for a 22meg archive. Just for the record, Blender's archive is a mere 1.3meg.

I'll have to download this one overnight. I'm happy for anything free that can beat blender, but I smell Bloatware.

Still.. I shouldn't say anything till I've used it.

From what I've seen so far this program is pretty cool. Im just about to start a tutorial on making my own universal studios type logo. The size wasn't a problem for me, as i have a cable internet connection

The 44Megs distribution includes textures and samples if you read close.
and yepper, theoretical the source-code could be adapted to various platforms..but only if you port it, and got the appropriate building tools.

As a limited 3d cgi model user, i can say that openfx is better than strata 3d (i could never get blender to work on my computer for some reason) Anyone looking for a free 3d program should get this.

I still think the best free modeling app is sPatch. And it's not 22MB to download.
But I'm sure every program has its strong points.

sPatch is surely one of the nicest free modellers. but OpenFx is a full featured package incl animation, kinetics, texturing and rendering....so if you luv sPatch, you could still use it to model, and use Openfx for FX and rendering
