A long time ago, in a country far away, a new kind of effects program was created. http://www.alamdv.com Forget everything you remember about ALAMDV - it has all changed! A new beta (version 1.6.0) is out NOW - which is completely different to anything you have seen before. It has a completely new interface that can support multiple resolutions and is 250% faster. It can now import many avi movie formats. It now supports plug-ins that will all be free to download when the program is released. Anyone will be able to make plug-ins as no programming knowledge required! ALAMDV is the easiest and quickest way to create effects like Lightswords and Muzzle Flashes. Release price still $60. So what can ALAMDV do? With the new plug-in architecture it would be possible to make thousands of different effects including: lightswords, muzzle flashes, lightsword clashes, lasers, photons, sparks, dust, lights, lens flare, etc... We have tried to make a program that will be really useful to film makers. Please come and help us make ALAMDV the premier tool for visual effects. We have also got a new web site so please run over to http://www.alamdv.com to see what you are missing. WE HAVE 500 NEW BETA TESTER PLACES AVAILABLE - SO JOIN UP NOW AND BE ONE OF THE FIRST TO USE ALAMDV. If you are already a beta tester you should have received you new password so download the beta (160) now. |

One problem. I keep the taskbar on the left side of my screen, and this program doesn't really give me any "maximize" options. So, I'm left with part of the left interface being covered by my taskbar and no real way around that. Just letting you know if you have a bug list going or something. Also, I havn't really used the earlier betas too much, but I just got my new dv cam and my firewire card is (supposedly) on the way, so I should be able to be a more...active tester shortly. |

Taskbar on the left, hmm - we'll have to sort that one.If you want to post a bug report or a message then we have a message board on our site under the title forum - this is the best place to do it. If anyone is having trouble using the forms at the moment then you can send you beta application to: toby@csb-digital.com Thank for your help everyone |

Firstly make sure you are Importing your video. To uninstall ALAMDV all you need to do is delete the folder it is in - we don't like making programs that put files all over your system. If you still have problems then write to: support@csb-digital.com We've also added so more to the site so take a look. More coming in the next few days as well. |

All of the tool buttons apart from the pointer as drop down menus. This might be the problem - you have to select your tool from these menus |

For us BETA testers is there a, um, basics or beginners tutorial thing. I'm extremley new to all this (that's why I got to be a tester) and it's all sort of foreign. Or a starting up quick start faq, or something?------------------ I once had 509 posts...but now I don't. |

The macintosh problems will be fixed in the next beta. Its going ok but there is a lot to do.As we are very new at this we need to compile a list of Digital VIdeo, computer and Tech magazines. If you can go to our forum (link from http://www.alamdv.com) and give us some names/web sites/e-mail addresses of mags you know then that would be great. Thanks for your help. Schwar |

when rotoscoping a lightsaber or muzzle flash or something, after you move to the next frame do you just move the points, i did that but the yellow are didn't move, what am i doing wrong?

Hi there. You haven't rendered the effect until you click on the yellow quad that you create. Once you have clicked on the yellow quad your effect will appear and you can move on to the next frame and do the same. The next beta has copy and paste to make thing easier and also the randomiser tool - this makes the quad slightly different every time it is used so you can make gun flashes on machine guns easily by pasting and randomising lots of frames Hope this has helped... |

Hey schwar, i would most definately luv to get some info on how to start developing my own spells/plugs... my #1 on the wishlist, cuz this would make it a LOT more useful to me. starting to build up my own library of muzzles etc... |

It's actually quite easy. ALAMDV, although a great program, consists of effects generated by compositing and stretching. In the magic folder, if you go into any folder, and keep going in, you will find a folder called varcol. There are some of the source images. I have already made a striped lightsaber. Schwar, there is also a suggestion I have. The lightsabers need a little tweaking, they still are not movie quality. If you have ICQ, my number is 96410435, or email me at schnarf283@usa.net |

I have added you to my icq list although I would not really agree that the lightswords are not movie quality. Yes we need one more setting - but they look fine everytime we have outputted them to TV You are right about how ALAMDV works although I wouldn't try creating any plug-ins yet as the syntax will change a bit in the next version to support masked and Photoshop alpha |

Also kinda crazy hard with most of the footage I've seen. We are working on a method that detects high density LED's - thats a while off yet - might be in version 1.5 or something. (as in final version 1.5 - version 1 being the initial release) You should be able to use the "Quick Tools" to create Lightswords. Two clicks per frame - thats all it takes |
