Good day all. I have a SONY VAIO laptop pc. I want to know if it is possible (well actually i DO know it is POSSIBLE, but i really need to know if it is FEASABLE) to upgrade the video card in the machine. Right now it has a 6Mb video card that can handle MOST 3D accelerated software. It has trouble with direct 3D and some games. Do any of you know if i can upgrade this? If so, then what type of card CAN i get. Also, the current card lets me export video to video, tv, and even has capabilites to use a DULE screen system. I need those features, and cant afford to lose them. Can anyone offer any suggestions?------------------ "May the Force be with you." Mr. Movieman...You may have some problems...most laptops have an intergrated motherboard...the sound and video and any peripherals that come with it are on the motherboard (sautered). It is rare to see one that has an upgradable video card. Thats the one thing aout laptops, hard to upgrade and extremely expensive. What kind is it and model? -Fink |

actually , the f590 is only 750 mhz with 128 megs of ram and a 18.1 gig hard drive.. but, you may have the f690 that has 850 mhz , 128 megs ram , and a 30 gig .. sorry , but im a sony freak.. you cant upgrade the video memory , but , upgrading the system memory may help because the video memory is shared with the system memory , therefor having more is better.. (i hope you get what im trying to say).. nice laptop by the way.. ive done a few projects on location with an f690 and they work great coupled with an external 80 gig firewire hard drive.. the only thing i didnt like was that it came with premiere le and im not a wait while rendering transitions kinda guy... - eddie - www.dvforums.com |

Eddie's right,You can't upgrade, but upgrading system memory may improve your performance. I've never liked the idea of laptops being editing suites (not until they are more expandable). But anyhow....maybe look into a desktop machine...they are really cheap now... -Fink |

Dont get me wrong, my VAIO was BUILT for digital video editing. The thing it WASNT built for, was games. I want to be able to run those super intensive games. Arrrg. Oh well, thats is why i have my desktop PC. Now THAT can handle games quite nicely, but for editing, it sucks. Thats why i got the Vaio, and it works great.------------------ "May the Force be with you."
