I know this isn't really a film question, but I figured you computer geniuses might be able to help me out. What happened to all those VR game stations that were around. They used to be in all the fairs etc. I last saw one about 5 years ago! I remember the guy saying that they had to look so blocky because the computer wasn't fast enought to process the graphics, and the input from the headset etc. But todays computers are really fast, surely they will be able to run Lara Croft type stuff in VR! If not, why not! |

They stopped using it for one thing becuase that VR stuff never actually made you feel like you were in the game you would put on a head set that would detect the movement of your head but not your eyes or your gun. Another thing is that no software developer is crazy enough to write software for hardware that no one has. Another thing is that the motion capture stuff it needs is still past what most people can afford just look at what motion capture suits cost!!! They do sell goggles that can display games in sterioscopic 3D but they are expensive. |

a) there still IS done lots of work in that field. just not for the consumer-market, as noone would be willing to pay the price they would ened to charge in order to earn ANYTHING of it.b) Shutterglasses arent too expensive. example : 3d-Revelator by elsa. can be found on ebay for as low as $30, and they rock. you need a vid-card supporting it tho. but they arent TOO expensive too, and those glasses ROCK, and work with EVERY Direct-3d App/game |

Yeah there still is a lot of VR stuff going on, just not for consumers. Well not yet at least, down the road a bit, there will be stuff out. Those glasses give some people headaches though, cause it still isn't true VR. It actually just makes things look 3D the same way those red/blue glasses do it. |
