im considering switching from my fully real time non linear editing pc to a g4 based final cut pro machine.. but , being a pc person im not very mac savy.. can anyone here thats used final cut pro fill me in as to if its real time or not?? this will be close to the deciding factor.. thanks..

realtime or not is not software dependent. you wont get realtime without a special accleration card installed. neither on mac nor on pc.

yea... as far as i know, there's no such thing as a totally real-time editing system. effects and titles need to be rendered on all programs i know of (even avid).
ah, well, this may be my last post here.

i know that the final dv output always needs to be rendered , but as far as previewing titles and transitions is it realtime? as of right now im using vegas video and i can see all my titles and transitions in realtime , with out rendering them first (like in premiere)...

you can never see them in realtime as they will appear in the video. ESPECIALLY not with a consumer product like vegas. you CAN see it in low res in realtime, but that is not what i call realtime nle.

has anyone that has ever used final cut pro know if i can view my titles and transistions in low rez in realtime with out having to render first???

Look at Apple's site!
It is realtime with hardware acceleration as stated above. http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/
